Don't bother with the new mythic packs.

If they offered a Mythic purchase that guaranteed no duplicates and charged twice the price... I would probably get it (I'm sure I'm not alone in that..).

However, I'm too paranoid since my last 600 big box purchase for SOI netted me a whole 3 rares and two were the same one and the third was a dupe of one I already had. icon_e_confused.gif

I'm not sure I want to waste crystals on 1K runes, at the moment. icon_e_wink.gif

I went through the mythic set list, and was like, "oh, I have about 1/5th of them, this should be great".

3 General Trazi. Gonna kill myself, brb.

TBH I think it depends on how many rares you own.

If own own all the rares in a set, then you can probably only expect an average of 1 mythic per big box from a set on average (Disclaimer: Drop rates may have been changed since time of data collection), so a big box basically equals 1 chance of a (possibly dupe) mythic, and costs 600. From that perspectice, 350 is quite cheap.

How do your existing rares affect mythic drop rates?

They don't. Youll get, on average, 1 mythic from a big box, and X rares. if you HAVE all the rares, then effectively you will get just 1 mythic and a load of dupes on average.

I know they're experimenting with new ways to obtain cards. This is a step in the right direction.

However, there needs to be a way to curb the edge case where you get nothing (ie. all dupes). There is no worse feeling than making the decision to invest hard-earned money in the game in exchange for a couple of cards, only to find out that "hey, here are 3 shiny new dupes for you to convert to runes". Ouch.

I did buy the three mythics, and I got two new ones for my collection (Infinite Obliteration and Dreadwaters), so in this case I consider myself lucky. But I've learned from the past to not expect these types of results, and based on this thread and many of the responses, not everyone is getting lucky this time around.

I'm thankful that they're actually making an attempt to create new products. Still needs some work, but at least it's moving.

    About luck ...
Is it only my luck that I haven't got a single Rare (not even dupe) from the free packs and event packs for at least a month ... ?
Drop rate has significaly went down :-/
For me it's not a big problem. I got enough good cards from before to play QB's and Events, but what about those that just started playing?
With that drop rate ... no fun at all.
I even bought 600 crystal pack and I've got 4 rare (3 dupes) ... rest was a trash.

    --ATTENTION --- CONSPIRACY THEORY ---

They know how much money You've spent so far, so they give You nothing for free now. They know that You'll be frustrated and You'll spend more money on Big Packs for $ icon_e_smile.gif

The problem is that there is some major underlying problem in the code with dupes and I don't believe that we are discussing edge cases.

Individually the chance of getting any one card of a certain rarity should be the same as another, like the chance of landing in any specific slot in a roulette wheel.

In the case of MtGPQ drop rates imagine that 3 spots on the roulette slots are red and represent cards you own, while the rest are black and represent cards you don't own. (Obviously this is not the ratio of spots for all, but it works for my collection)

When it comes to rares and mythic cards people seem to hit "red" an unlikely number of times. My wife and I both play and have raised eyebrows at this, it comes up on Reddit, here, coalition chat...I think it is at the point that it's not just people's imagination.

Was a little bad that, with only 14 of 117 Mythics, I ended up pulling a dupe. Would have been happy with one of the less desirable Mythics...at least it would have gone towards "collecting them all".

  • This is best crystal value for getting mythics that I've ever seen. I got a Thopter Spy Network for my third.

Great value, sucks getting a dupe but that needs to be addressed with their RNG. Their RNG is probably broken as it's broken in so many aspects of the game.

There's no arguing the value, it's a great deal and having a single charge of the bundle recharge weekly would be an excellent addition to the game that would be a great sales and engagement driver.

The dupe problem cannot be overstated though. Losing a months worth of event and quick battle crystals to a dupe is the kind of negative experience that can lose them a player.

Got zero duplicates and copies of Decimator of the Provinces, Seasons Past, and Goldnight Castigator. I don't see myself using that last one, but overall was worth it in my opinon. Just gotta weigh if you have a lot of mythics already, then you're more likely to get duplicates. Personal opinion, this is a good compromise for those who want to be confirmed to get mythic rare cards, and not wanting to just let everyone get every powerful card in the game.

    I got:
-a dupe Hangarback Walker (how I was excited the shaking colourless gem was going to be Mirrorpool!)
-a new Descend upon the sinful (yeah boiii! Been looking for this for ages!), and
-a new Dreadwaters (is this thing even playable?)

Overall, very good value and totally worth it.

I must confess that the fact that this deal was ending in a week and I had no chance of winning enough crystals for all three attempts from events was what pushed me to finally spend money on the game and purchase some crystals. That and also the fact that they changed it so that nodes now don't start fully charged, meaning I finally don't need to get up at 4am for every event, made me feel supporting the game is fine now! THANK YOU DEVS FOR ALL THE SLEEPS!

    P. S. Please bring this deal back if you want more $$$ from me!
  • I got a super awesome mindwrack demon! After that I started doing math. The list shows 93 possible mythics. I own 24 and I only want 14. That means I have 15% chance of getting a card I actually want and a 27% of a duplicate. Those are terrible odds for 350 crystals! So I'm not sure that I can roll those dice again.
  • UPDATE: After I just bought a big box instead of the guaranteed mythic, I got 6 dups from SOI. Wish I would have bought the mythic instead. Please kill me!
  • I am the stupidest pets on the planet. I just dropped $25 on crystals to try another mythic. Duplicate! I hate this game sooooooo much!!!
  • lol pets? Stupid autocorrect! I clearly meant person.
  • My 3rd go round also magically landed in the 27% of mythics I already owned. So to recap:
    1050 crystals =
    Mindwrack Demon (oh boy!)
    Dupe
    And another dupe.
I think they actually check your library and intentionally give out dupes. Only explanation.
