A simple fix to events so people can sleep!

The Problem
E.g. NOP currently starts with 3 games for 5 planeswalkers and if you don't play a game on each node before 4 hours have passed you lose a refresh and many points.

I have no probs with this as events start and finish at 5pm but not everyone lives in the UK.

The Solution
Please just add the amount of nodes that can be stored by 3 for every event.

E.g. NOP would start with 3/6 games available to play in each node

This way when NOP (or any other event) starts you have 12 hours to do your first round of nodes. This means people not fortunate enough to live in the UK icon_razz.gif can have a sound nights sleep.

Q: Why not just increase by 1 or 2?
A: 1 still only gives an 8 hour window which is too short. 2 would be ok but seeing as when you start an event can be critical to where you place it means every one should start at the same time as you will still be gaining refreshes.

I'd also like to have solution for qb. Not everyone is a happy resident of USA who can play till 10Pm (their time). 3am for Europe is an actual disqualification from highest rank.

I live in EST and am not a fan of having to spend my evening waiting for the QB timer to finish. Basically kills my ability to do stuff in the evening if I want to actually get a decent rank. Since there are 3 QBs per week, I could deal with missing out on one to get rotating finishing timers so everyone gets an evening timer.

Those are great ideas for getting back to 4 hour timers while keeping people from losing refreshes if the event starts overnight, and none of the following are meant to disparage them. I just want to highlight a couple other issues that might still be present, and offer potential solutions.

One, if someone in a specific area wakes up in the morning to play some matches for an event that started overnight, said person will still face a disadvantage. Even if they were to get the highest score in all the matches, they would still not have a chance at first, because someone who gained the same points, say, 6 hours earlier in an area where it was daytime when the event started, would already be towards - if not at - the top of the rankings, and can't be displaced since he/she got there first. The only way around this is to split the event up geographically so it starts at, say, 5pm in each and every time zone, and only has participants from the respective time zone. Or perhaps regions comprised of several time zones. As an example, the US. If an event started at 6PM Pacific time, and included the whole United States, it would be 9 on the east coast. That would allow everyone in that area to reasonably use up their matches at the same time, maximizing their chances to place first. Possible to implement? Not my area of expertise, but there it is.

Second, it poses problems for events such as Avacyn, where the event is over after boss health is depleted. In the most recent one, there was still a little health left after a 7pm refresh. Now, supposing it were to be finished off at the next refresh, people in my time zone would have had to stay up until - or get up at - 3am to use their 3 matches if they wanted to stay competitive. While it might not be as effective for these types of events as for Nodes of Power type ones, this could also benefit from splitting events up for different time zones or regions.
