"It that Rides as One" vs "Lone Rider" [Devs Aware]

Hey!

I just got situation that:

On my side I have "It that Rides as One" 21/21 (transformed Lone Rider) with True-Faith Censer (vigilance and +1/+1) on.
Opponent has "Lone Rider" just buffed by Nahiri to 5/5.

"Lone Rider" attacks. I expect outcome to be 21/16 and Lone Rider dies ... but instead ...

My "It that Rides as One" ends up with 21/16 and opponents "Lone Rider" transforms to "It that Rides as One" 8/8 ????

Is that how game mechanics should work in this case ?

  • If we are to follow the transformations based on werewolves, the transformations should take place at END OF TURN

Werewolves transform at start of turn because it's explicitly stated on the card.

Lone rider transforms the moment you heal for 3. Couple that with the mechanic that damage on one side of the card is not reflected on the other, I can see how lone rider becomes 5/0, then flips to become 8/8.

I'm not sure if this is the intended effect (it's what makes thing in the ice so good against berserkers), but it's definitely consistent with how the game works with transform.

This occurs any time the lone rider would take damage.

    Here's the sequence of events:
    1. lone rider, pumped up to 3/2 with vigilance from True-Faith Censer(+1/+1 True-Faith Censer, +1/0 for being human)
      8/8 creature attacks
    2. lone rider has first strike, deals 3 damage
    3. lone rider life link heals 3
    4. lone rider transforms to it that rides as one 5/5 (4/4 plus +1/+1, without the +1/0 human bonus, since it's not human anymore)
    5. 8/5 creature deals 8 damage to lone rider, not it that rides as one. It deals damage to the flipped side of card.

Since I know it works that way, I have used that behavior several times.

when used against another first strike (or a double strike) creature, it still generally works the same, though I think that once it did get killed without transforming

Just encountered this behavior for the first time. A 9/7 first striker attacked into a 3/3 lone rider with vigilance. At the end of combat the 9/7 was a 9/4 and the lone rider transformed into a 6/6 It that Rides as One.

This definitely seems like a bug. Damage on a card should stay when it transforms. The lone rider should transform into a 6/6 with 9 damage on it, then die.

I think the point would be it should be dead before being able to transform. Problem is that Puzzle Quest doesn't use the stack so things get a bit messy regarding things like this.

just had a battle where my lone rider returned from
being bounced as it that rides as one by harbinger of
the tides. it still cost me 4 mana to cast again instead
    of the correct (4+6)10 mana.

Just wondering if this happens to all transformed werewolves.

It does. I've seen it happen more than once. The same is also true if it's bounced by Reflector Mage. It doesn't get the 300 mana increase.

    Yes.

This has been reported quite a few times by many others.

    Hi Everyone.

I just wanted to let you all know that there is an active bug report for this in the database, so the devs are in fact aware of this and working on a fix.
