1.7.2 Slows Down Animations

Ugh, this is by far the worst thing to come down the pipe. After we got those awesome speeded up animations now we're back to slow as molasses animations with 1.7.2.

Devs,

Can you give us a slider bar with the next release? If the fast animations are off putting for new users, set it to a reasonably slow level. But us advanced guys want these sped way up. How about a setting for this?
