Anyone care to explain Main vs sub event place for Strange

I finished 1st overall in my sub event and 5th overall. 4 guys have more points than me in the main event even though I finished 1st in the sub event. Those 4 guys dont even show up in my Top 10 of sub event.

are we placed into one main event and then spread out in sub events

so they could finish first in the hand node while I finish 1st in the maggia node?
