Cannot connect to steam to play.

I cannot connect to steam in or out of MPQ. whenever I try to play MPQ or start steam, it is stuck on a little black box "Connecting Steam Account: Username". longest I left it was 30min with no change. Tried restarting comp and still cannot log in. looked at steam forums and tried a few minor tweaks that people have said work to no avail. any suggestions?

I know this is a steam issue, but I havn't found any help there that has fixed the issue, hoping someone else may have encountered this since the only steam game I have played for a long time is MPQ.

    Might be just a server side problem, this happens to me quite frequently as well, usuallu all I have to do is wait for some time, and it's gone.
