Points multiplier. Diversifying (stupid idea?)

How about for PVE and PVP tourneys, at the end of it, everyone gets a points multiplier based on character usage.

The game would take the 3 characters you used the most (required characters are immune) and compare it to the overall community character usage.

For example, your 3 main characters used (based on matches played per character) are *** Spidey, ** Ares, and * Storm. They rank let's say 1, 15, and 23 respectively usage wise giving you an average play rank of 13 (39/3). You would get your final score multiplied by 1.13 (just an example). So if you used the 3 most used characters, you would have an average play rank of 2 (6/3) giving you a multiplier of 1.02.

So someone who finished with 600 points using the 3 most popular characters would wind up with 612 (600x1.02).
And someone who uses an average play rank of 13 who had with 550 points would wind up with 621.5 (550x1.13).

This might be incentive to diversify the characters used a little? Maybe it's just another one of my goofy ideas. icon_redface.gif

I don't think it's a stupid idea, but it is a bit complicated. How do you describe that in-game for the more casual player to grasp?

The same way you the current scoring system is thoroughly described, and in a casual-friendly manner too, explaining all the aspects of rubberbanding, node refreshes, scaling etc. In case that's still unclear to you, here's a more compact answer: you don't.
  • There should be some kind of usage modifier as a long term project because it's ridiculous to expect more than a handful characters to be top tier even if the game was perfectly balanced and you do want to encourage variety. That said, the game right now is not ready for that kind of stuff since a usage modifier simply means OBW, Spiderman, and a few other choice characters are just permanently nerfed.
  • It's interesting, but it could lead to some seriously unhappy moments after the tourney ends when you discover that your "top 1 finish" became a "top 25 finish" due to something completely out of your control. Especially if you try to use undervalued characters only to discover that a lot of people were doing the same thing.
