Required character advantage too big?

I happened to have a single Dr. Doom card for this round of the simulator. For some reason, I decided to do the missions that required him first. Even though it greatly benefited me, I'm a bit unsure if this is good for the game:

I wound up as the number two rank in my bracket, without even starting the seven normal missions. I hadn't even played the Doom missions enough times to extinguish all of the rewards.

If we are going to compete with other players in PvE for rewards (which itself is a bit strange for PvE) shouldn't it be a fair competition? As it is now, I don't see any way for someone without the character of the day to compete with one that does. It seems like simply a way to reward someone for having a character. It is more of a lottery than a challenge.

You can cover a lot of ground completing those missions. However, missions that do not require that character lose points at a higher rate. I've been watching those 3 nodes and the large iso stock pile one. Typically they are all over 1k when I start playing. However, when I complete any one mission, the large iso one drops almost half, while the other 3 still remain slightly above 1k. More completions further drops the values to around 200 pts for sim 04, while the others ones can hover around 500.

To me, this just means that if you have the required character, you have to grind less to keep up.
  • There's always been a rather consistent pattern of the biggest point missions being tied to requiring certain characters. In Simulator Basic, the top 3 most valuable base point missions are all character required.
