This is a really good guide for starting players:

  • Thank you much!
  • I think my best newbie advice is: Spend all your money in one place.

When I was new(er), I had a tendency to push ISO into the flavor of the week... I'd have a character that I could level up to here, so I would... and then switch to a different character. Really though, you want to pick a few "main" characters. When you have room to grow them, do so. When you're waiting on additional covers to raise their cap, just save your ISO.

Now, deciding on that core? There's some personal preference there, but here are some good characters to think about:

Original Black Widow (OBW) - Not only is she powerful, but she fits a niche category with her skill set. In-between matches, when you have no health packs, you can use her to go back to prologue missions and match a bunch of blue tiles to heal your characters.

Thor (Marvel Now), Wolverine (Astonishing X-Men), or Ares (Dark Avengers) - I would advise picking one of these three to focus on at the start, since they all use the same AP colors (Red/Yellow/Green). Thor or Ares are more versatile, because both of them have a yellow skill (as opposed to Wolverine, whose yellow skill is "passive", in that it heals him). For a starting player, I'd probably recommend Thor, as he'll be the easiest to "figure out". Personally, I like Wolverine. Snikt snikt!

Classic Storm (cStorm) - Good utility character, her Wind storm ability can often clear the opposing team out, and her defensive yellow capability can be devastating.

    So... yeah. There icon_e_smile.gif
  • I used 100 of my coins to get a new card and got lucky and got Wolverine X-Force, how good of a card is that? Started out 4 star lvl 30.

Pretty good, only problem is that as it's a rare card you're going to have a hard time getting more of them.

Actually, at this point you're better off buying roster slots rather than tokens -- it means that you won't have to decide which characters to keep and which to drop so often.

OK sounds good will keep doing that, one thing for sure, he makes the prologue and getting all the rewards from it ALOT easier.
  • I agree, I used my coins to expand roster quickly, so that I never had to trash any characters. I figure it will help in the long run as different characters are buffed for diff events, etc.

He might be impressive at the beginning, but for now, actually, he's pretty ****. I personally wouldn't call it a good pull in your situation, as you're very likely to wait weeks or even months before you get more covers for him. Don't ever spend HP (Hero Points, that's how the gold coins are called) on anything else than roster space - you will need as many characters as you can possibly gather, variety and diversity is a huge advantage in this game. Also, roster slots get more and more expensive over time, so what seems now a small amount is eventually going to turn into a huge pile of coins. When you reach around 30 cover spaces, you may slow down and start spending your HP more generously, but not before that.

This advice is generally good, but not for a starting player. You should think of what Telepath said during your 1* --> 2* transition. Right now I don't think you'll have enough covers of AWolverine/Thor/Ares for them to be viable. For now focus on your main team which could be Iron Man 35, mStorm, and mBlack Widow, and as others said keep your coins to expand your roster until you have at least 25 spots open.

I got an XWolv very early, too, which is why I only developed two 1* chars at the outset -- I only recently built a Modern Storm, and I already have several maxed 2* chars. XWolv is extremely rare (being a 4*), so he will most likely be stuck at L30 until you're already past having a solid 1* team.

For now, XWolv is a good third, so use him as that. But, I'd focus on a IM35 + Modern Black Widow (MBW) + Modern Storm (MStorm) core team. MStorm, especially, will stay useful even when you've maxed a few 2* chars. IM35 and Modern Black Widow, on the other hand, will be directly eclipsed by 2* chars when you get to that point, but they're very useful to you right now. Don't spend HP (coins) on tokens (cards). Spend them only on roster slots at least until you've got... at least 20 slots. My roster finally got a bit of breathing room just a couple days ago, and I have 29 slots.

You'll get tokens from Prologue pretty regularly, so don't waste HP or Iso on those. Use HP for slots, Iso for leveling.
