Can I lvl 5*s without affecting scaling?

I'm not ready to start pushing a 5* transition, as I only just got on firm footing in 4* land. That being said, I've got a 3/1/1, lvl 255 OML that I've been using to clear the easy nodes in pve. It'd be nice if I could toss him some levels without messing with my current scaling. So how high, if at all, can I push him (or any 5*)? Is it as simple as keeping him under my highest lvl 4*?

You are probably good as long as you only level OML, and don't take him too high. I had him at level 330 for a long time without noticeable difference in scaling or matchmaking.

You've got a 4-star roster, I think it's about time you can stop worrying about scaling.

Why would I stop worrying about scaling? Is there a cap? If not, a game overscaled for a 4* roster seems like it would be similarly annoying to a game overscaled for a 2* roster, no?

I feel like the difficulty I'm seeing currently is in a pretty good place for my roster. I'm just trying to avoid upsetting the delicate balance.

That will work. What is your roster like? If you have several champed 4*s they boost to what? 350? Keep your OML under that 350 level and you won't notice much change.

Are you competitive (T10 or better) in PvE? If so, don't touch any 5*s, they will put you at a disadvantage.

My OML is up to 405 now and scaling isn't noticeably different from 375, and I'm able to use my 4* roster just fine. A 330's certainly not going to change things.

I've got OML at 350 and it has caused a slight increase in PVE opponent levels, and I now see 5*s up to 405 in PVP, but neither is a particularly huge deal. You should be OK to take him to 325 or so without seeing any real change.

Scaling is affected by your 3 highest chars and how many covers you have in those. So If you level him until reaching your third highest 4 you will be safe.

To answer the questions above, no, I'm sadly not a top 10 pve player. Usually top 50 in regular pve, top 100 in 4* release pve. I'm not usually competitive in pvp at all, although I do sometimes go for the 4* progression rwd.

    My champed 4* roster is:

    284 hb
    278 xfw
    275 cyc
    274 rulk
    273 jg
    272 antman
    272 iceman
    272 tgt
    271 cho

So it sounds like I can level OML up to 275 without fear? Although it also sounds like I could send him all the way to 330 without a noticeable difference.

You're just slightly ahead of me. 9 champ 4s to my 8. I took my oml to 320 a couple weeks ago and haven't noticed any difference at all. PVE levels may have gone up by a couple, but not enough for me to notice. PVP mmr seems unchanged.

The question you need to be asking yourself is, do I have enough (preferibly /good/) championed 4*s that at any given weekly combination of boosts I am likely to have at least a 350+ character? If the answer is yes, you might as well level your 5*s that high because you'll be experiencing a scaling fit for those 350+ 4*s anyway. If you don't have that many championed 4*s, it may be rather risky, because OML will keep your scaling high even during the weeks when you have no buffed 4*s around his level.

Given the last 2 weeks, where I've had none of the boosted 4*s (except for the heroic where tgt was the essential), I guess the answer would be no.

So I presume your advice is to keep him at the unboosted lvl275?

No one has asked this yet, but where are your 3* characters at. If you have them above 185-190 or so, they can also get boosted above 275, I believe.

My 3*s run a pretty wide gamut, from 199 to 183. I have a few 3*s at still 121 due to suckiness (rags, sentry, etc) or to keep them in back (falcon, loki). But I'd say 190 is pretty much the average level.

Using the current pvp as a sample, my 3 highest boosted 3*s are 277 gsbw, 272 if, and 270 ock.

That seems safe. For what I've heard, even 300 may not affect you badly, but I don't have empiric evidence on that claim.
