Lack of Variety in Purchases

So, I've now purchased several different packs (600g ones) and I think there might be something going on with the variance of cards that are given out. I received the exact same rares every single time, as well, almost always I have received the same uncommons, and commons. What really upset me was the two mythics I received were identical as well Sigarda.

I've spent quite a bit so far on the game trying to get some decent cards to build around my planeswalkers, but it seems to me to be pointless if out of the variety of different cards that are available, that I'm consistently getting the exact same cards.

So, I'm just wondering if this is extremely bad luck or if this is a broken random generator, or even possibly something up with the card pools. I have a hard time believing that it's random, considering i got 4 of the same rares out of 5 that I opened and the 5th was a duplicate of one I'd already received two of.

Just wondering if others are noticing this?

Oh yes sir, you are not alone. Drop in the bucket. Lots of discussion regarding this topic. Most of it frustrated outpourings from people spending money to support the game and feeling screwed. Devs are silent on the matter. The RNG in this game is beyond bad. And it affects every aspect of the game. Notice lots of the same card in your hand? A.i gets an extra two matches because they dropped them six gems of the same color all packed together...twice? Open a booster and get three of the same common? RNG. Evil thing.

Ok...lol...well I'm glad I posted then. I'll hold off buying anything until they fix the issues. Love the game, would support it absolutely but not if I'm not getting my money's worth or a fair shot at different cards.

What makes it worse is I'm Canadian and the card purchase prices are in USD, so what's listed there isn't accurate, it's much more.

Good to know though, thanks for the reply.

I stopped paying with real cash a week ago... The packs are far from satisfying. It feels like screwing paying customer...

I never open boxes or multiple packs on the same day.

I opened 15 big boxes earlier and got... 6 mythics (3 of which were dupes, let's not even get into that). So at around 50$ a mythic, or rather ... 150$ for a unique mythic... no more iap for me in this game!

15 bbs should be enough of a sample size to justify this statement: The drop rate in this game is disgusting and shameful.

I don't know what kind of whales these devs are trying to cater to, but I'm absolutely disinterested in paying anything else for this game, based on this experience.

PS. To put insult to injury... the mythic I got (Crush of Tentacles) has led me to lose 3 games in the recent event due to consistent crashes with the octopus token: viewtopic.php?f=32&t=52952

I totally agree. Developers have no morals. This past month i opened 4 big boxes and 20+ packs from quick battles, events, and sign in rewards. Not even mentioning opening 2 free 3-card-packs everyday... That's about 600 cards opened...

Got only 1 mythic and it was a dupe...12-13 rares but since I already own about 2/3 of all the rares in this game, most of the rares are also dupes.

Developer, please bring back the 1050 crystals guarantee mythic big boxes option. I am tired of opening big boxes with no mythics. Thanks!

There was s small bit of feedback on drop rates in another thread over a month ago but it was a little generic viewtopic.php?f=36&t=49913&start=20

So you have most of the cards in the game already, and you're surprised your dupe open rate is going up?

I have been wondering if the higher chance of rare purchase is better than guaranteed rare purchase. Higher chance of rare implies that there is an increased percentage of getting a rare while guaranteed rare doesn't.

I dont think so... i think its just play on words. And my experience of opening those packs also points to no difference in drop rates

Have you noticed recently that you get more rares and mythics, but most are dupes? Seems like they give out more to make you think odds are better, but give more dupes, so technically the odds are the same. Its a conspiracy!

Isn't that the expected outcome, mathematically speaking?
  • I stopped paying months ago. I really want to spend cash to get Arlinn now, because I've wanted her for months (April to be exact, when I saw her on paper), but no way I'm gonna spend cash on a developer that doesn't care about the satisfaction of its customers. And by the way, I used to spend a lot of money on League of Legends and even though I haven't played that game in an year, yesterday I logged in and dropped 10 bucks on a skin I really wanted 2 years ago and they released now. So it's not like I'm being cheap, but with Riot I have always felt like a valued customer.

As a long-time MTG (and other RNG based games) player, i just can't take any RNG complaints seriously. And i think any player with similar experience will confirm that. Sometimes you just roll a six sided dice four times with the same result on each try. Sometimes you draw your hand of seven cards in paper MTG and get all lands or no lands. No software, algorithm or bad developer intentions involved here. It's just RNG. It doesn't make any sense to complain or even get angry about it. Losing the finals of a booster draft by being mana-screwed in both games does not bring up any emotions in me. You just have to take it how it is. Everyone who plays RNG based games will learn that sooner or later, no matter if the RNG generation is digital or physical.

Same goes for dupes. The more cards you archieve, the more dupes you get. It's just logical.

And if they'd take the possibility of recieving a dupe card away, there would be complete collections all over the place very very quick which might even kill the whole game.

That being said, complaining about chances is a different and (especially as a customer) legit thing. And i can understand from my own experience, that opening multiple big boxes without any improvement for my collection feels just horrible.

The devs just need to find a good compensation for these situations where players pay a lot and recieve nothing. I think the biggest issue here is that the current compensation (runes, and not even many) has little to no use for many players. That makes it feel like getting nothing, while there are options to make these players still feel like they have made progress. Bringing back the 3 card pack rune purchases while increasing the amount of runes awarded for dupes is just one of them. There could also be a new system as a solution like awarding points for dupes, like 1 pt for rares and 4 pts for mythics and 50 or 100 points give you a big box of a set of your choice, just to give an example.

I'm not fan of letting players pick singles though (like in hearthstone) because this system creates a meta where everyone is just playing the same decks and cards. At least that will be the case for the higher tiers like gold and platinum.
