Prized Amalgam

What happens when you "exile" a card from your hand? I know that if some effect forces you to discard, it goes into the graveyard. Is that true for voluntary discards too? Like, if I voluntarily throw away a Prized Amalgam, will it resurrect itself the next time I cast a zombie?

Exiled in this game is like exiled in paper. So your willingly discarded amalgam in PQ is removed from the game.

If you just pitch it from your hand, it is removed from the game.

If it is discarded due to some effect (for example, Liliana's first ability), then it is in the graveyard, counts as having "died" and will come back to life when a zombie enters the battlefield on your side.

Whoa, wait...it gets removed from the game entirely? It doesn't get shuffled back in when you reach the end of your 40 card deck? That's a little...unexpected. Maybe I should be a little less cavalier about pitching cards from my hand. Are there any other times when cards get removed from the game?

Man, I wish the rules of this game were a little more clear.

No need to worry. Yes, cards you choose to exile from your hand are removed from the game, but that doesn't mean you'll be handicapping yourself in any way. Your deck will repopulate itself once you cycle through your initial 40 cards with a new shuffled 40 cards automatically. Assuming you're playing that long. icon_e_wink.gif

When you reach the end of your 40 card deck, a new deck is created with 4 new Prized Amalgams. All I'm saying is that if you send a Prized Amalgam from your hand to the trash can, you won't be able to resurrect that particular copy of Prized Amalgam. If it's discarded from your hand through some in-game effect, then you will.

I guess the idea of a 40 card deck with 4 copies of each of your cards comes from paper MTG. It just does not seem true in this app.

I just proved it for myself. Played a story round until I had six copies of the same card in hand.

Try it yourself. Ob Nixilis is the best choice, since you can speed up card draws with his first ability. Pick a low end story round and just grind for 15-20 minutes. You can easily collect more than 4 copies of a card in hand. I even collected Olivia, by sheer chance, and had 6 copies of a mythic in my hand!

JC already went over this. If you reach the end of your deck or you need to grab a card which is not in your deck a new set of 40 cards are appended to the end of the deck. Effectively making your deck size infinite. But it's not totally random which card you get like what happens when you open cards in packs. Which everyone complains about being too random.

I feel like there have been times when I've drawn a 5th copy of a card long before I've drawn the 4th copy of all of the other cards. I haven't been rigorous about testing this, so it could just be me imagining things.

I thought that too, and then I tested it. It turns out that seeing 4 copies of a card in a row feels like seeing 6 copies of it, but that's never what actually happens.

It just shows how even when something is set up to be smoother than actual randomness it still feels less smooth than we expect. Not one person has thought "I don't see enough sequences of 5 of the same card in quick succession"...

Theoretically possible for Olivia to be last 4 cards in first 40 card set and first 4 cards in the second 40 card set too.
