Avacyn's Madness 2

Well, Avacyn's Madness 2 is going on. Still.

I wonder if perhaps we the players gave the wrong feedback the last time around. A lot of the feedback read like this: 'The event finished too early and I didn't get to score as many points as other people!!'. I wonder if perhaps the dev team read this as 'The event finished too early!', whereas the point that was being made was really 'I didn't get to score as many points as other people!'.

I, personally, am finding the event interminably long. I still hate those secondary objectives as much as I ever did... beating some of them is a bit like solving a puzzle, isn't it? You think to yourself, aha! In order to not lose any creatures, I shall play Ob Nixilis and build a creaturesless deck! The fun part of solving the puzzle is now over with, and the act of actually winning the games is a tedious grind.

Perhaps, tho, I am only speaking for myself here. How do you all feel about Avacyn's latest bout of Madness?

Can't tell. I get to finish about 1 in 6 battles, the rest result in crashes. Not really interested in playing at that point.

It's a slog and I also feel it has been too long. If it was a few recharges shorter, I wouldn't feel so burned out. Maybe if it's a hard cap at 48 hours and you start with only 1 charge per node.

I appreciate the raid boss' health increase to give us a longer event, but I agree 100%: a bit overtuned.

Drop her down to 75% of her current or so and it should be fine. Weekend-long events are rather draining (see also: first Saheeli Rai's challenge) - there are some in my coalition (and I'm not far behind) that are ready to just wait out the rest of the event to get a break.

I got to around 850ish ribbons until I eventually just got burned out.
I picked up Ob Nixilis last week so I just used him the whole time.
Here's the deck I rolled with. Nothing super spectacular but it got the job done for sure.
Now I just need a coalition for an actual incentive to play the event...

I've said it before. There needs to be more progression rewards to keep people active. Right now the coalition scores are the only thing keeping people active, and only those who are at the top are fighting.

Set another set of crystals at 600 and another booster pack at 850, maybe a fat pack at 1,000.

This is a really boring event. Granted I did get to actually play it this time but now that I've got the personal ranking rewards there's no reason to keep playing it. My coalition reward is sucky either way so where's the incentive?

Nice deck! What's the largest stack of hasted flying lifelink Prized Amalgams you've ever made? icon_e_biggrin.gif
  • I liked that I had more time to get the progression rewards since that's all I was in it for (not currently in a very active coalition). I just grinded the last 2 nodes since they gave more ribbons per win. I can see how it could get tedious if you're playing like the Saheeli event but have to take down 400 HP opponents from time to time that just take a lot longer to finish.

Thanks! Nothing too outrageous yet. Since it's Ob Nixilis the match usually ends from the AI attempting to obtain too much knowledge that has been deemed otherwise forbidden.

I bet if I was on Liliana, wasted money on Mindwrack Demon, and got my mitts on Behold the Beyond, I could really jam pack the the graveyard with amalgams.

There really needs to be a reward for everyone when big Avacyn dies and the event ends. Currently there is zero incentive for anyone outside of the top coalitions to keep playing if they've already hit their personal rewards. Even if it's like 50 crystals + a UC/R with a shot at a R/M card, there's some incentive then for people to keep playing it so the event actually ends. Now it's just the top few coalitions still grinding along to maintain their spots and hopefully finish her off sooner than the 5 day end timer.

Exactly... there is currently no real incentive to keep playing once your coalition's reward tier is mostly locked in.

Because this event has a global timer, the logical conclusion would be to ask players to beat Avacyn as fast as possible, and provide rewards based on how long it took to beat her. This would force her to go down as fast as possible and all players would be incentivized to play, if at least to get the progression rewards.

Like the event. Loathe the higher encounters. It's never a question of whether or not I'll win, rather "do I really feel like spending thirty minutes chipping away at this fool?"
Nah. Give me world of tanks while I recharge the first three nodes. I enjoy the challenge without the tedious tapping.

I am a multiple hour daily player. This event is the most frustrating event so far. I am completely aggravated.

    1. the massive cascades the AI gets, especially at the higher levels.
    2. The power levels of these decks are out of control versus most players.
    3. The hours waiting makes this no fun.

The event will eventually end anyway with the top coalitions chipping at it. Your suggestion unfortunately provides zero additional incentive.

Just return the hp to the original version, and you'll get the tension again as everyone actually races to finish their objectives.

a simple incentive to make people play often and meet secondary objectives:

give a small amount of crystals per secondary objective met, say 5 crystals, as in the story mode.

I am sure many will play often to get some free crystals.

as it is, I have already stopped playing once I find that my coalition has no way to catch up on 10th position.

I have also recommended my coalition mates to stop playing the Avacyn event, take a short break from mtgPQ, and come back stronger in the next terror event on Wednesday.

I have 1000+ pts personally in Avacyn II.

Alright, after lurking in the forums, and reading all the discussion on the 1st and now 2nd runs, I have come to the following generalizations:

We went from "The event was too short, she didn't have enough Health... I didn't have a chance to hit all my progressives!"
    TO
"Holy cow, this event is STILL going? It's way too long, she has too much health, it's such a grind! I have hit all my progressives and have ZERO incentive to keep playing, outside of the top coalitions!"

My we are a fickle bunch! Guys and gals, this is the first foray into the coalition-based events for our beloved game. There's going to be some fine-tuning and adjustments that need to be made when the data presents itself. Let's keep our feedback constructive. We can complain about things that are problems without devolving to whining.

Here's my general take on the two events:

First run was definitely under tuned. I got to play some of the event, but going to bed and waking up with the event over was a bit of a buzzkill.

Second run is now a bit over tuned. Once your regular players hit their max progression and decide to stop playing, the boss's health drop slows considerably. This leaves everyone in top coalition ranks with the task of grinding her down the rest of the way in order to maintain their expected coalition rewards.

MISSED OPPORTUNITY: They could have made the event so much cooler if they had Avacyn FLIP when she is killed the first time, and then have a "FINAL FORM" battle unlock for everyone to fight her to get the killing blows in. I mean, her card has TRANSFORM, so why shouldn't she?

This is a strange perspective. I actually found this thread to be very civilized and whole-heartedly constructive.

Agreed in general, little incentive to play the event beyond progression rewards, if you are not in a top coalition.

In fact, that is an incentive to play QB and score higher while top coalitions fight for the top spots at the event...
  • I do agree with most other people's opinions as this event still needs tweaking. Adding extra coalition rewards such as two to three bfz mythics for top ten would seem nice as this has now been a three day event with rewards equal to what you would get with any other one day event. I also feel that the theme should have rotation as soi has been shoved down our throats for awhile now. Granted its great for a block theme but very unappealing when you've played awhile and keep getting the same mythics.
