Ormendahl cannot block

I noticed today that neither Westvale Abbey or its transformed version (Ormendahl, Profane Prince) are able to block after giving them Vigilance / Defender. Has anyone else seen this?
Somehow I doubt this is the intended behavior, because the "X" indicates "can't attack", not "can't block".
