Events.....sometimes people just don't want to go at it for long. To do the nodes and wait for them to refill. That's what QB is for sure but could there be something like a QB but instead for a day or two or three just be 8 hours long. 3 times in a day and a player can only join one. Maybe even can only win a card of the color of the PW that they use?

Or even (especially for Blitz events as there could be so many) have a red blitz where only red cards can be played or a Pauper Blitz where only commons can be played or a Set Blitz where only a specific set (only Origins or whatever) can be played and the rewards are only red cards (like how it is for the QB's) or a random card from Origins if it's an Origins Blitz.0

Last on the event types. Server wide boss events. Random Bosses appear after playing x missions. Bosses are those big bad Eldrazi or something. With like thousands and thousands of HP, which will insta kill you on the 3rd or 4th turn. You can heal up and attack the boss again until it dies or flees away after a certain time limit. This might favor combo decks, but building combos must be fast due to time limits. Bosses can be solo type, coalition exclusive or server wide. (I think server wide boss must have 50k hp or so)0

I like the coalition style boss fights idea. Maybe you can have progressively harder bosses to fight in the event depending on your coalition win percentage with better rewards for the harder bosses you kill. That way it's more of a PVE coalition event instead of it being purely competitive vs other coalitions.
Like you could have 15 tiers of bosses and after each fight your ribbon total for that last battle determines whether you move up or down the tiers. Each boss would give a specific prize.
1 Ribbon per win per player in coalition.
0-3 Ribbons: Move down a tier
4-8 Ribbons: Stay at same tier
9-12 Ribbons: Move up one tier
13-18 Ribbons: Move up two tiers
19-20 Ribbons: Move up three tiers
With rounds being every 12 hours you could do 8 rounds during the week and that would work around peoples work schedules.0
