VICTORY!! I FINALLY BEAT GAUNTLET!!

For the first time in my 2+ MPQ "career" I finally overcame the dreaded Gauntlet!

The last time I tried to complete the entire Gauntlet was back in December 2014.. that's right I wanted the newly released third Loki green cover (times have changed!) but I was unsuccessful due to the difficulty. Since then I don't even bother trying to beat the third sub (Global Domination) but since the new PVE starts tomorrow I finally decided to give it a try (and I need Iso!). After I was embarrassingly destroyed by Squirrel Girl (https://d3go.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=50954), I stopped playing around and used my strongest teams. I mostly used the teams of Cmags, KK, and IM40; Cyke, Red Hulk and Hulk; Captain Marvel, Black Panther and JG (BP essentials). While there was some challenging battles along the way, it was mostly because I am unfamiliar with the recent new 4* powers as I watched Moon Knight slash my face off, Kate showed me her boomerangs and I witnessed Peggy throw the shield better than the great Rogers himself.

The last node (BB, XDP & Peggy at lvls 311) is why I am writing this post as I did not go into battle with full health as I figured I would try it out then heal everyone after. I went in with Hulk, Red Hulk and Cyke. It started off okay as I was taking advantage of BB's charge tiles to hit everyone with Red Hulk's 18AP green but then Peggy quickly one-shotted Cyke and I did not realize XDP black goes off on AOE.. not looking good but fortunately Hulk had 3 Anger tiles ready to unleash until XDP used his purple and of course the strongest color is.. yupp green.. down goes Hulk.. Red Hulk has a 2300 health left. I had another 18AP green but it was not going to be enough to finish the job. I used it and noticed I had his purple ready, I used that to gain the 7 green AP BUT then I saw my wonderful GSBW purple T/U waiting to be used. Everyone had 3000 health so just 9AP at 2500 damage was not going to cut it, I needed the big 18AP again. Unfortunately there were still XDP 'CD for What' tiles so I had to strategically place the green tiles with the charge tiles while trying to avoid the XDP tiles. I used the T/U and closed my eyes.. as I was opening them I was either expecting to be dead or have 17AP but a miracle occurred! I scored exactly 18AP and I had 166 health remaining.. I clapped those big red hands for VICTORY!! (screen shot below)

I have not felt this accomplished in MPQ since I scored 2000pts in SHIELD SIM for the first time. As frustrating as this game can often be, it is moments like these that makes me enjoy playing. I am sure many players fondly remember the first time they finally took down DDQ Big Enchilada! Anyways, hope you enjoyed another Punisher story. Good luck everyone tomorrow for Clearance 7 PVE! icon_e_biggrin.gif

Cheers, mate. I stopped right around the second stem, I just couldn't move on. Gotta work on leveling my chumps up, boosted Ant Man couldn't carry me far enough.

    Congrats! icon_e_biggrin.gif

I finally got it as well this go around. Liberal use of winfinite and Hulk Bombing along with some boosts finally got me to the end. icon_e_smile.gif

Good on you mate. My first tried I died with Black Bolt alone standing at 65 HP and a single AP more or a second cascading match would have allowed me to win. Got them in my second try, though.

Congratulations. I'm in the same boat. Roughly 2 years in and I finally did it as well. Though I cheesed it with Charlie's Angels.

I have finished the Gauntlet couple of times (and for some others i didn't bother... how many we had?). This one seemed like the easiest one in my memory. I actually finished it yesterday without even trying. And this is not to brag - initially I was sure the scaling will be so hard I will not even try to complete it. But eventually, out of boredom, i was doing a node here, two there and I've reached the end. It was mainly due to Ant-Man and Cyclops (i have both on my limited list of champed 4*) being buffed and working so well together. Cyclops yellow was feeding Ant's purple when they were used together and that was working very well. Sometimes I would play IM40 and Iceman with one of them, sometimes Jean or even Phoenix (i have 5 purple but nothing else so she is not leveled). The scaling was manageable till the end and I have enjoyed this iteration of gauntlet. If only the awards were better (like 25-50 CP).

Congrats, buddy! That was a good story, too. It's a satisfying thing to finish the Gauntlet.

Now let's bang on about it until they run Gauntlet all the time!
  • Congrats man!! This may be the first time I clear it too....got to the last node and gotta wait for some health packs to recharge...not sure how Im gonna take ot down but i have days of trying left to do. Wish me luck!

This was my first win too. Cheers! (still haven't gotten that 2000 in SIM yet, got 1900 once)
  • Congrats man, this was my first completion of gauntlet too - on day 885

heavy red and blue board was in my favor for last node using Rulk, 4cyc, and Thoress

I was stuck on that one for a while. My champed Ant Man was not cutting it. Nor was my adiquate CCylops.

So I went with an old tactic. Red Hulk, Thoress and Iron Man 40.
Bloody hard work focussing on Peggy. Peggy was honestly the hardest part about that node with everything costing 4AP more. Took forever to get any moves going. I managed to kill her but I think she took Red Hulk down before he really had a chance to do more than a single hand clap.

After that my Thoress was really low on health...but I'd managed to get 12 yellow AP...so I slapped down two sets of countdown timers and just prayed. I had to get IM to tank by having him match purple. Thankfully I only lost one countdown timer so I ended up with over 20 blue and 28 red. And that finished them both off with about 300HP left on Thoress.

    I didn't feel like I achieved anything...I felt like I'd rolled a natural 20 on a die. Lucky.

They deliberately put you against XPool so you can't whale these damn things ¬¬
Everything else after that was just mopping up. I went backwards through all the required nodes and got the rest of the rewards. Now if only I could get some black covers for Venom...

It took me about 1.5 years until my roster was strong enough to defeat Gauntlet.

Quite often I would get about half-way through the third sub and then just give up after being defeated within a few moves.

Wow I had no idea that Peggy has an ability that makes our abilities cost 4AP more.. wow.. this made my win even more impressive. I did not even notice the difference in AP cost. As you can see I killed all 3 at once and I mostly focused on Deadpool cause of his black ability.. wow.. icon_lol.gif

Mr. Miyagi is proud of you.

Just remember, now you have to finish it every time.

Rulk is awesome against her for this reason. She only raises the base cost, so if you're going for the 18 AP facesmash, she basically only makes his purple more expensive.

    Nicely done.

For me I still have some mopping up to do on essential nodes but I beat the 4Pool/Blackbolt/Peggy node with a truly old standby: Hulk Bombing with Daken as my 3rd. Patch did get nuked by Peggy's red but not until after he had fired Berserker Rage twice and 4Pool was dead because of it. From there is was just keeping Daken healed and hoping for not enemy cascade.

I beat it last night. I nearly always complete it, but it's still my favorite challenge in the game. I got the final node with my trusty 4thor/kk/IM40, but I just tried that Hulk bomb strategy and good lord does that work better than it has any right to. Thanks for the tip.
  • UPDATE: I completed the full Gauntlet for the first time as well! I found Hulk, 3Thor, KK to be a go-to team to spam green AOE attacks.

Very excited to finally feel like mybroster is coming around enough to progress past 3* land into 4* territory

My first time as well, thanks to OML and the occasional whale explosion.

Sadly it sounds like the days of OML's greatness may be nerfed soon. icon_cry.gif

just completed my first gauntlet. champ 4* cyclops helped out a lot. whaled the last few essential nodes because I just wanted to get them over with. wish the 4* reward was someone better though.

I've beat the gauntlet once before, but then didn't have the required character to get the 4* icon_e_sad.gif . This time around, I was at my wit's end. I'm trying to max my PX before a cover expires, so Winfinite was out. My A team went down, I healed them, went down again, went to my B Team, down they went, healed my A team, crash and burn, C Team... you get the idea. I was barely doing any damage and if the other team got a power off I was pretty much dead. Then I remembered a team that I used earlier in the gauntlet because of the required character that had worked well. I didn't really have much to lose so... Are you ready for this? I beat the last node of the gauntlet with 3* Hulk, Kamala and Black Panther (all champed, about 180). Where OML, Thoress, PX, and a slew of others failed... Basically, just kept hulk up front as much as possible, at one point even regular matches made him angry, and then spammed the Clap sometimes several times a turn to heal him back up with KK. BP was there to use the excess AP from the cascades to aid the healing process. I about died laughing when I realized I had it.
