PvP - Thor(ess) Smite ignores Protect tiles?

I just noticed this in PvP - God of Lies. I was using Loki, Falcon and 3*Mags (All champs if that makes a difference).

I fought a team with Thor - Goddess of Thunder and towards end-game, I had almost the entire board covered in Protect tiles and she only had 4 or so charged tokens up (and only char left). She hits with Smite and was doing 5000+ damage seemingly ignoring all my protect tiles, no strike/attack tiles on the board. I could understand if she was hitting me with 2000 dmg, but looking at her Smite, it looked like it was max damage (~3500+ @360 per charged). Now I'm apprehensive of fighting against her if her Smite is like Peggy's red Ult. Soldier (ignores Protects).

Once I have some heals, I can try another battle to confirm, but was curious if anyone else noticed this..
