Casual mode

I confess that I've suggested something like this before, but now that I've played HearthStone, it's obvious to me that this game needs a casual mode too. Casual mode in HS gives the player a chance to just play the game without having to complete. It's a good way to try out new characters and new strategies.

Shield training is supposed to be this, but because it relies on MMR, it fails to deliver.

For example, I have a 2/3/3 level 50 daredevil that I would love to play (I think he is fun). But I can't because my MMR is based on my A-listers. How is that fun? Many, many people have suggested that this game is too competition focused. In fact, it's all there is.

Give me a chance to play all these characters I collected! I'm not asking for more rewards, just more ways to have fun with all this cool stuff you've created.

  • I agree with this and up voted the thought in the shield training revamp thread. I have a lot of characters I like to play (classic Hawkeye for instance) and others I've just gotten and want to try out (daredevil, aires, ect) but shield training is def almost like a tournament set up with everyone bringing their buffed up A game and low hit point characters have no chance of even surviving long enough to get one of their special abilities to activate.

I'd love something like this too. It is a bit annoying to get a card for a new character that will be completely useless for a month or more until you get ten more, since it is underpowered and at a lower level than any cards you get matched against. It would be cool to have a place where matches were picked based on the cards you want to use, not MMR.
  • Forgive me, this is going to come off a little more d-baggish than I intend it to.

For a casual experience, or for wanting to play characters that you've recently received but haven't leveled... replay prologue matches.

The range is pretty vast as far as difficulty and level of opponents, there is variation in both goons and the DA folks that you fight... it really seems like the casual experience you want is already there.

    Rewards? Well... that's a different story icon_mrgreen.gif
  • I like the idea. Rewards wouldn't be neccessary. Maybe some kind of Danger Room mode?

Would be nice if we could choose our opponents and their levels. ... Come to think of it, how about granting minor ISO-rewards (equal to half of the enemies' total level or something like that)?

Also, having the option to play with little to no reward, no MMR and no injuries/death to your characters would be great. Just for ... you know ... fun!

Yeah I've met a lot of people over teh years who don't like playing competitions and PvP and just want to play through a game all on their own.
I think something to entice those players to stay around more could be beneficial.

Add me into this. If I'm graded on my overall record and put against players the AI thinks is a challenge, what's the incentive to play my lesser characters?

I'm all about competitive matchups, but I think there's room for a noncompetitive practice level that includes the post-prologue characters.
