48 hour sub nodes

So when there is a 48 hour sub node, you can beat each node 4 times before the timer starts, but then if you beat it again after 24 hours resets it, does the time start again? Also, can you only beat the node 6 total times in the 48 hours?

It seems to be almost pointless to extend a sub node that long.
