Event not accessible?

So I didn't join the Terrors in the Shadows event before it started, and now it says "Event not accessible". Is this how it's supposed to work? Do we have to join events before they start? I thought I used to be able to join events even after they had started.

    Ah, I figured it out. Somehow I got logged out of Facebook so I was no longer actually in my account....
