    This is maybe the only thing I don't like that much about the current system. Playing should be the biggest source of xp, levelling chars and buying covers should give you xp too, but not as much.

    Playing any given node that it is not locked should give you xp, not just the first and the 7/7. And PvP fights should give you xp too.
