Tips for lightning rounds...

By now we all know you have to tank in order to do well in any PvP tournament... Beyond that, does anyone have any good tips for lightning rounds? I have gone the last two rounds without being attacked and STILL cannot place in the top 10... Do I need to do some serious tanking so I can get extremely favorable matchups? Also, I started both rounds the second they opened and played bots to 200 points... Or is the key health packs?

  • If you have a team of maxed buffed characters most people will skip you, specially 141 hulk/patch combo for hero rounds.
After that its just skipping till you find the first 20+ point guy n having at it.
If your still at the ** stage, abuse the hell out of MMR or the next 141 buffed team, if they come across you, they'll wreck you for 40+ points.
Shielding doesn't help as much if your looking for top placement as there's limited time and you won't hold first unless your MMR is really low as LRs have no brackets.
  • Tank... a lot.
  • Top ten in a LR is a lot more competitive than top ten in a two day pvp event. If you're not getting attacked, you're not killing quick enough. You don't say what you're using, but having useable buffed toons helps a lot. A healer lets you keep on fighting nonstop. Tanking can help, but mostly at the low end of the score. If you're getting 200ish just off bots it's not gonna make a huge difference. You will see other teams at the top as you climb. If you're mostly using 2*, and getting top 25, you're doing very well.

Play off peak times if you can as well.

Beyond tanking not really much, key is speed, speed, speed. Without incoming attacks your positions in only dependent if you can create points faster than the other guys. Start immediately and keep playing, then you end up somewhere. icon_e_smile.gif

Yesterday I was nailed to #11 for all the time, guess all the other guys had the same pace.

You can speed yourself using boosts obviously, I used them only in last few matches (my damage palette filled up from playing icon_e_smile.gif but guess everyone else on top did the same.

Obviously skip to shorter-looking fights. And use terrain to your advantage if you can.

My experience is a bit different from the above comments. A bit of context:

I got #8 in the LR that just ended (Patch, I think) (black Hulk & red Punisher, whoo!)
I hit 600 in Lord of Thunder from scratch yesterday, hit 700 today, and started getting attacked and matched with L141 teams today.
I tanked two LRs during the day. So, I think I was tank-neutral in aggregate.
    I ran L77 Thor + L77 OBW + L40 Patch in the LR.

I saw a few L141 teams, but by and large, I saw 2* teams and a surprising amount of IM35. I got attacked maybe 10 times total, won 4-5 of them for single-digit points, and didn't do any fights (well, maybe a couple at the beginning) worth more than 20 points. I'm kinda confused as to why you can't get to a Top-8-contention point total even without any attacks.

I was very confused as well... I run a level 85 patch, 80 Hulk, 75 punisher, 75 OBW, 55 spidey and 110 Psylocke which I rotate based on my teams health and the matchup... I faced a lot of teams with 100+ characters, so after the bots my matches were VERY slow... I guess I'll just tank a couple of rounds before bed and see what the competition looks like tomorrow... Also, it was difficult for me to find matches against opponents with more than 17 points.

Oh, I see. That would pull your point-accrual rate way down. I'm curious: do you not have L85 2*'s? It's strange to me to run a sub-L85 3* team.

Guess those are raw levels, with LR buffs they come out 60% more.

If you want to place well in the LR's you gotta grind like a mother falcon. I busted my tail yesterday in the IM40 LR and finished 22nd I think. Just getting to 22 was a battle. In the end it was worth it as I received my 5th black cover for Hulk.
