Shouldn't discard trigger relentless dead?

I tried putting relentless dead into play by discarding it with tormented thoughts, but it stayed into the graveyard until it was retrieved by prized amalgam.

Shouldn't it pop into play when discarded by an effect?

Was going to reply just "of course it does not".

After a little thought most description that imply returning from graveyard are quit ambiguous.

Liliana third skill implies "creatures you controlled" but it works with discarded too.

Seasons past too, states thing you "controlled".

So one assuming relentless working in a similar way is not blatantly in error.

It's just that since it is returning on its own, you can assume hat it needs to be in play when this happens.
If this was not the case then other cards like ereboros Titan and despoiler of souls should also work when destroyed by discard.
