Despoiler of souls bug

So I'm playing with liliana and my opponent has a despoiler of souls on the field. I activate the discard ability of liliana so I can time my removal and the first card of my opponent isn't discarded. No supports on field. Wasted one of my event games to loosevto a bug. Really annoyed
