Village Messenger transforming on first turn

I just had this card cast against me in NoP in the middle of an insane third-turn cascade by the AI. It came out, the AI got an extra turn, it made more matches and cast another creature, and then when it finally became my turn (after the AI had fully cleared out its hand of cards, thanks to its cascade), Village Messenger transformed. Not only was at least one card cast the last turn (itself), but another one after it, yet it still flipped.

In fact, this happened again later the same match (not the cascade, but the card flipping on the turn right after it was cast).
