Alliances : Questions & (hopefully) Answers

It would be nice if something in the game itself would clearly lay out all the details relating to Alliances. It seems that this is just another half-@rsed "feature" that D3 is throwing out there without sharing any details about it.

Can someone give accurate information about the implementation of alliances?
How will they work?
What is the benefit?
Any associated costs?
etc......

or point me to a thread that this might have been discussed or addressed?

Patch Notes, including Alliance info for R48:
    viewtopic.php?f=13&t=3898

    Same for R49:

Upcoming features list, part of which were released with R49:
    viewtopic.php?f=13&t=4022

That should handle most of what you're asking. Costs for Alliances are currently set at:
    Startup - 2500 Iso
Alliance Slots past 5 - Slot # x 100 Hero Points. So Slot 12 for example would cost 1200 Hero Points.
  • Someone mentioned cooldown period after leaving alliance. How does it work?

Can a commander kick another commander?

What happens if alliance has one commander and that commander leaves?

What happens to the alliance if last member in an alliance leaves?
  • The kick timer is currently glitched for Alliances - doesn't seem like you can rejoin the alliance you were kicked from at all.

It takes 30 minutes to join a new alliance once you have left your old one.

If a commander leaves, they leave and lose their commander spot.

    Commanders can't kick other commanders.

Thank you Ice9. Im still confused about what is required to join an alliance:

ISO : "Startup" is 2500 ISO? Is there another ISO charge for events or to recruit, or is it a flat 2500 ISO to join an alliance and then you're set?

Hero Points: It depends on what slot# you would be in the alliance? How is that fair to someone who joined later than someone else? I'd have to pay a ridiculous 1200 ISO to be #12 on a team that someone else paid 200 ISO? How can someone determine if the alliance they want to join is truly active and would yield something decent in return returns?

Honestly would be better if all relevent information about alliances were listed in the game. How many players know to access the forum? It honestly doesn't make sense to post this information on an outside forum in which you have to weed through 1000 threads to find the information you're looking for.

Thanks. I guess the alliance is "stuck" once the last commander leaves. The remaining members can't expand it and nobody else can join if it's private.

Nothing is required to join an Alliance. 2500 Iso is the cost to create a brand new Alliance, and is listed when you try to do so. If you want to join one, you search for one that isn't full, you click Join, done. What players do with Private Alliances in regards to joining fees, placement requirements, hazing, etc is up to that individual Alliance.

For slot costs, that's to expand an Alliance. There's nothing saying that *you* have to pay that cost when you join, although that's an interesting little thing that users have figured out to do on their Private Alliances.

As for forum pointing, we do that with nearly every client-side patch in-game and with every App Store description of changes. We point out the major things in-game and make changes to usability as features are rolled out, and posts like this are a prime way for us to know what users may be having issues with.
