Well after carefully considering my options, I've decided to call it quits. While I did enjoy the game, I feel the game is moving in a undesirable direction and I would prefer to no longer invest my time or money playing. As my farewell I will post my stats before I uninstall the game:

10/14 Planeswalkers (all maxed)

2176 quick battle victories.

Thank you everyone, this community had to be my favorite part of the game. Just remember, no matter how much time or money you spend on this game, you cannot get it back. It is wise to not take that into consideration when choosing to continue playing or not. I wish you all the best of luck! -Raidan

Just out of curiosity, did you spent tons of money in the game, I guess a lot? How much did you played every day? If you spent a lot of money, is it because you just have that much disposable income?
  • I have also been considering this.
For now, I want to see how Coalitions work and what statements will they provide for the lack of communication about this patch, but I was gonna buy crystals for a Big Box and I was gonna buy Arlinn when they release her, now I'm certain I'm not spending even a dollar on this game anymore.
    Devs don't deserve it.
Which is too bad, because the game is fun, but they lack any communication, the boards are full with bugs, some of which are in the game since launch, and no one cares. All they do is release new overpriced stuff to get money.
Anyway, good luck and give Final Fantasy Mobius a try, it looks pretty awesome, but my hard drive space is limited and I'm unable to play until I get a new phone, in the following couple of months, I hope.

I actually only spent about $25 since the release of the game in December until mid last month. Then I spent about $125 these last couple of weeks trying to hunt for a few rares ($75 alone just buying 3 black fat packs trying to get Grip of Desolation, which I finally did, see my Ob Nixilis deck I made in the deck/strategy forum, it's pretty powerful). So in total about $150 spent. I do have a decent amount of disposable income, but I still try to remind myself that I pay $50-$60 for an AAA game, so I shouldn't spend too much on this. Most of my cards are from winning 1st in quick battles, with a lot of 2nd places as well as a few lucky pulls from daily rewards, the SOI cards are from buying 5 Big Boxes with all the crystals I had from my purchases.

Sorry to see you leaving but I understand. I've also been playing since December and my desire to play has been incremental to the updates in a negative way. That seems wrong but I suppose I am no longer within the targeted demographic. I spent $ prior to patch 1.3. That patch was the writing on the wall for me and I've gone freemium ever since. I am happier for it. My advice is to take a break and readjust your expectations. That's what I did and I found I still enjoy playing at it's core. I've given up on being competitive in qb's and pvp's. These days, I simply collect my free packs, level up my plainswalkers slowly but surely, and put as much effort into the game as I feel I am getting back in pleasure. This GAME is much more enjoyable imo when it doesn't feel like a second job. Plus, going freemium takes the sour "ripped off" taste out of your mouth. Anyhow, good luck!

I agree with you buffbeardo this game is best as freemium for sure and is more enjoyable in small bites.

I see Raidan on top 3 in QB quite often, its sad to see a good player leaving.
Would you mind posting the decks you use for QB? It would be the best legacy you could leave for us icon_razz.gif

I spent around 60 on mtgpq so far to get me Gideon z and a box. While I am loving the events, and the feel of soi the freezing and random bugs have made me move to freemium as well.. so I do enjoy the game, but am waiting for a major bug fix to get me to feel that when I do spend money, it's not going to crash during or after.....

Kiora and Koth are the fastest before SOI, I do not know about the newest planeswalkers speed (I imagine she's fast)

Koth seems to be a bit faster, but he also takes more damage on average than Kiora. I used them both.

    Kiora deck:
    Crush of Tentacles
    Exert Influence
    Prism Array
    Talent of the Telepath
    Fertile Thicket
    Mirrorpool
    Oblivion Sower
    Dwynen, Gilt-Leaf Daen
    Outland Collosus
    Nissa's Pilgrimage

I have not tried to add any SOI cards before I quit, but I'm positive some of them will speed this deck up.

Older cards I would try to switch in if I had them: Switch Oblivion Sower with Desolation Twin or Woodland Bellower (or add both and also replace Dwynen) and switch Fertile Thicket with Shrine of the Forsaken Gods.

    Koth deck:
    Minature and Denn Wildborn
    Akoum Hellkite
    Avaricious Dragon
    Jovi En, Ruin DIves
    Oblivion Sower
    Scab-Clan Berserker
    Tyrant of Valakut
    Mirrorpool
    Battlefield Forge
    Volcanic Rambler

Again no SOI cards are considered in this deck.

Older cards I would add if i had them: Desolation Twins, Akoum Firebird and Omnath, Locus of Rage.

Thanks for sharing ur deck, your Kiora deck looks amazing, however, please enlighten me of ur koth deck cuz I am so puzzled bout it...

    1. I don't understand why putting 8 creatures in a deck when you are only allowed to have 3 on the field...

    2. Why battle forge when there are smoldering marsh and cinder glade?

    Cheers.

There are 3 main reasons you want many creatures in your Koth deck:
    1. By getting 3 creatures out as soon as possible, you can maximize your damage/speed potential when you use the 2nd or 3rd ability (mostly the second). You want to use the first ability as a priority to getting 3 creatures out, then the 2nd ability becomes a higher priority. I suggest you never use the 1st ability if you already have a red match available.
    2. If you encounter anything that destroys your creature, quickly being able to replace them is very important for maintaining a decent win speed.
    3. Koth has a lot of mana gain potential, so that potential is wasted if you draw a hand with 0 to 1 creatures. There just aren't any spells or supports I could switch in that seemed to speed up my wins, so I instead went with more creatures.

You will sometimes win with a lot of different creatures in your hand, but it will usually be faster than having a smaller chance of filling the board with 3 creatures ASAP. Also because of the plethora of creatures, it is on occasion wise to replace a weaker creature on the board with a stronger version, especially if you have Mirrorpool active.

Smoldering Marsh and Cinderglade were the 2 dual lands I was missing, so I just substituted them with what I had. What really matters is creating red mana, the other colors have little consequence. I saw there was an SOI card that created 2 mana of your planeswalker color, this would be your ideal choice.

I didn't get a chance to tweak my Koth deck that much, and yet it was still able to compete and sometimes perform faster than my Kiora deck which had many many tweaks. For me: Kiora all around is an "I barely lose health and I perform rather fast consistently" kinda of PW. Koth is a "I may take some damage, but I have some serious speed potential" kind of PW.

With Koth you can get out 3 creatures in 1-3 turns, then if you've had a cascade or two, you could be looking at adding up to 24 damage (which is 20-28% of a PWs health) by using the 2nd ability. You can also add in double strike creatures if you're looking to get additional value out of your 2nd and 3rd ability, but be warned that too many Berzerkers in your deck and you will slow your win times.

As for specific reasoning for the creature choice, I'll offer the following:

Minature and Denn Wildborn: She's great for triggering cascades with her generating 1 green/red mana per turn. Also if you hit her activate, this can help you clear the opposition without losing 100% of your damage, thanks to trample. Overall this helps with the speed and the longevity before needing to drink a potion.

Akoum Hellkite: Solid damage to cost ratio and also clears enemies when you get landfalls.

Avaricious Dragon: A very high priority to bring out when facing any PW who doesn't have red as a color. This is because it has a very good damage to cost ratio as well as cascade potential every turn.

Jovi En, Ruin Diver: A cheap way to double your card draws, giving you faster access to the better creatures as well as the highly desired Mirrorpool.

Oblivion Sower: Another solid creature to bring out, preferably early on. I only suggest you prioritize this creature when the opposition is not red.

Scab-Clan Berserker: Haste is always a bonus when it comes to speed, if you manage to hit the enemy instead of a creature, you'll get a bonus +3/+3, this would be my target to replace with Firebird if I had it. I usually only give this card higher priority when I know I can hit the PW and not an enemy.

Tyrant of Valakut: This creature may seem a bit over costed, but it has 3 very powerful things going on. One, it is your best survive ability tool, often clearing the enemies board, allowing you to preserve health. Two, it offers 6 bonus damage to the plains walker immediately. Three, it receives the highest bonus from Mirrorpool thanks to the powerful starting stats.

Volcanic Rambler: Probably my lowest pick for bringing out late game, but if it's in your starting hand, it should have the highest priority because you can get it out and trigger some very powerful cascades, potentially filling your entire hand in 1 turn.

Additional Info: Because a lot of creatures have situational usefulness, (eg. Oblivion Sower/Avaricious Dragon vs non red, Jovi En when low on cards, Tyrant when the enemy has 2-3 creatures, Scab-Clan Berserker when no creatures are present) it is always good to have several options available.

I will also offer a few quick battle pro tips:

    1. If you are about to win the battle this turn with your existing creatures, do not use any PW abilities. Try to prioritize getting PW mana and avoid cascades. Using PW abilities, filling of cards with mana, and bringing out new cards or being promoted to replace a card all waste unnecessary time. Eg. I will not use an Exert Influence on a winning turn as it only Wastes time. It can be so tempting to perform match 5, cascades, reinforce creatures, or cast powerful spells to perform complete overkill on the enemy, but on a final turn you're just slowing yourself down.

    2. Always try to do math in your head during enemy turns. Eg. Figure out if losing a 4/4 this turn but gaining a 6/6 without haste, will give you more damage overall in the long run. Also try to calculate how many turns you need to win after you have creatures on the board and if using abilities, spells, etc will speed it up. If it will, do it, if it wont, hold off.

    3. It shouldn't happen often, but if you find yourself in a very troublesome situation eg. a white deck with supports preventing you from attacking, it is sometimes worth it to just quit, heal, and start a new match.

There are other tricks and strategies you can use, but I'll leave those for you guys to figure out.

I hope my advice helps some people out and does not upset the top quick battlers.
