Maybe too good? I mean Day's Undoing is an incredible card, and Behold the Beyond is a whole lot better than that... it even discards so you can take advantage of graveyard synergies.

Still, it's nice to see that blue doesn't get ALL the broken cards.
I actually haven't found a decent use for my recently pulled Day's Undoing. Blue is by far the color I play the least, mostly due to the fact that I had pulled none of the very powerful spells before this one, so I'm sure there's a good use for it, but I'm just not seeing it, yet...any ideas?

Since you do not know how to use it, send it to me, tnx icon_lol.gif

On a serious not the main use of it is to loop cascade effects
Use in conjunction with gems converting cards that have low cost and you can have some insane turns.
It can even(and is not that rare) loop into itself.
The new hydra mythic makes these decks even more powerful cause it helps in both getting the cascade going AND in getting big advantage of it.
Other cards that benefit from this tactic are:
    - part the waterveil. Mana gain and tokens for attack
    - prism array. Draw card and disable on landfall
    - herald of the pantheon. Many heals and helps chain casting stuff
    - any landfall creature. Best being undergrowth champion for defense.
    Probably omnath for offense.

I can predict hydra gettin 20/20 the same turn they are played icon_e_surprised.gif

All of this assumes you have kiora.
If you don't then probably days undoing is not a good choice.

Well two immediately leap to mind... a Kiora deck with Nissa's Pilgrimage, Fertile Growth, and Natural Connection, and a blue beatdown deck with Murk Strider, Screeching Skaab, and Bonded Construct. I've played both of these builds in PvP with a good deal of success. Blue beatdown was particularly good against slow, ultra-control Kiora decks... sadly, we can't tailor our decks for specific opponents any more.

Also, bear in mind that one of the great strengths of Day's Undoing is removing mana from your opponent. If you see him paying for something big, then let him pay for it for as long as you think you can get away with, and then Day's Undoing. In blue, you can compound that mana denial effect with a number of others, like Sphinx's Tutelage, Scatter to the Winds, Disciple of the Ring, Kiora's first ability, or Jace's third.

Once you start playing with Day's Undoing I'm sure you'll find like me that you just can't live without it icon_e_smile.gif

I don't think it's broken at all. I think it's one of the most solidly built cards around. It's up to the player to use it to the best advantage, but on its own, it's not anything too crazy.

Runaway Carriage on the other hand... Good luck with that thing unless you have defenders.

What event pvp deck doesn't pack defender/reach/vigilance these days?

The problem is when it becomes unblockable.

My favorite SoI cards so far are the zombies (all of them! shout out to relentless dead and diregraf colossus for cool combo possibilities), Behold the Beyond (great in every black deck), and Wolf of Devil's Breach. That wolf is amazing; I just wish red had better madness cards to take advantage of the discard.

I was thinking of a sarkhan "get value from discard" deck.
I have not sarkhan and will not buy it just for this(have not enough dragons atm) but, if you are willing to take away completely dragons sinergy(meaning you only use first skill) you can get some cool sinergy.
Just theory here, actual try is needed.

I have dragons with Sarkhan so I don't think building around madness would be worth it. That being said I have added the wolf to the dragon deck and it's ability alone is worth inclusion. Every red deck of mine has the new wolf card in it. The 5 damage is worth the drawback of the discard, as it practically wipes the board every turn.

I haven't played with Sarkhan much since I added the card. It may free up a card spot if I can remove Grip of Desolation though (I currently run both grip and To the Slaughter).

I would never run less than 2 of the 5 mana removals in any black deck.
The tempo swing is huge and only one copy can easily not show at all in decent time.

You might be right, but that may also be overkill considering I run Tyrant of Valakut and Wolf of Devils Breath in addition to direct removal. I'll have to test it out. Ideally, the board would be clear bc of creature abilities anyway.
  • There are a some "wow" cards I've gotten so far in SoI, but my favorite is actually something a bit more mundane: Drownyard Temple.

It's not as cheap as Shrine of the Forsaken Gods, but I don't have that card, so this is the next best thing. The fact that it comes back from the dead on a landfall, however, is a real boon. I put Drownyard in almost every deck now.

I'd been running none of the above in my Lili/Jace/Chandra decks, and not really finding any good options. What do you think are the best defender/reach/vigilance creatures in black, blue, and red?

Black: Fetid Imp maybe? I do have Smothering Abomination - it's not a great card but might work here.
Blue: Ugh. Literally nothing that survives an attack. Maybe Scrapskin Drake, I guess.
Red: Double ugh. Skyraker Giant? That crazy RW sometimes-double-strike guy that's probably too expensive even for Ally decks?
Colorless: Hmmm... Wild-Field Scarecrow to play speed bump and hope they don't reinforce/buff their Carriage?

These are all giant downgrades against anything other than RC. Or you could run True-Faith Censer and use an entire deck slot to fight one card. I'm going to try to outrun it for now until more decks have RC.

I don't think a creature with both Hexproof and (usually) Prevent Damage is good for game balance. Of course it's beatable and we'll all adjust, but it's only really beatable in one way, and that limits the ability of the designers to make decks feel different and provide a varied experience. I predict that RC gets changed.

Haunted Cloak is useful for any color if you're lucky to get it (rare card).

    Black:
Diregraf Colossus is a really good defender. Better if you have more zombies in deck.
Mitigating damage through lifelink is a bit stronger with SoI now too.

    Red:
    Ignore and burn
Situational - use a creature steal card onto an opponents defender (if they have one besides RC+blocking buff). Subsequently, you can steal other creatures and throw them at your opponent's indestructible RC blocker as removal too.

    Blue:
Mass bounce spell. While the cheapest is 14 mana (displacement wave), consider that RC + another effect to give it blocking ability costs more in total.

Thanks very much for the thoughts! Definitely looking forward to building a Zombie deck around the Colossus - I do have him, but not the key support cards. (How much fun will that deck be if they release an Ashiok or Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas so we can play blue/black, eh?) Even without support he's an OK option, but without buffs he just trades for RC. Still, a 5/5 defender for 10 is probably good enough in a black deck with a couple of kill spells, eh?

Lifelink's also a good call. I think Drana's Emissary is the last BFZ uncommon I don't have, but the combo with Defiant Bloodlord looks amusing. icon_e_smile.gif
