Still need one more red cover. I've sold a pair of purple covers now.

So: I've got a 1/0/5 Rulk (with another red cover in the DDQ vault with up to 92 tacos). If I try this clash, I'm going to have to boost damage, level to max, and match Hulk to death, right?

Probably. Even that may not be enough. My Rulk was in a similar laughable situation for his first Crash, and despite valiant efforts I never got through it.
The curse that prevented me from getting his covers has since lifted and he's championed now. Was easy last time, expecting it easy this time too.

I got it done with a 1/2/1 Rulk @ 94 last time. So everyone with a low-cover Rulk and some HP match damage boosts should take heart!

    my strategy was:

Boost purple and red match damage, and also boost all match damage +100% (so this will get expensive quickly if you don't have a stockpile). Then:

    1) deny red
    2) keep denying red!
    3) collect purple
    4) collect green
    5) deny black matches

His red is game over with a low health Rulk, so that must be denied above all else. Green is much less threatening. you can let him get it up to 10, but make sure you have enough purple for a gamma siphon whenever he does. denying black is low priority, but might help if the match damage is too much to handle.

Until you have 4 or 5 green covers, most of the damage output will have to come from match damage, so those boosts are important. If you only have 4-6 covers, then you should plan on several tries waiting for a good board.

Got lucky and pulled my 11th Rulk cover today -- I plan on sinking some ISO into him this week and will be equal parts surprised and upset if a 2/4/5 Rulk can't handle this.

Although I totally expect the AI will conjure up some amazing cascades to beat me on my first few attempts

I am finding that the all color match damage boost significantly helps the ddq clash. It's also a coincidence that those boosts cost hp instead of iso.

I've won a few ddq when I knew I should have lost using that boost.

Good thing I don't need the boost on this one. Mine is at 5/5/0. Would have been nice to have 1 red though.

Edit: Made a mistake with the color arrangement

I might have a small chance with this battle. My Rulk is 1/2/2 lvl 78, but I might add him a few levels.

My Rulk is 1/5/5, so I think I'm good on covers, but I've got some stuff dying on the vine, so I don't want to spend more ISO than I need. Any idea what a good level would be?

Doing some math, this is my strategy for 1/0/5: level Rulk to 152 so that he'll have 10528 health with a base of 67/52/60 red/purple/green damage (which translates to 201/156/180 match-3 damage). If Hulk is going to be the same level as past cycles, then he'll have 15255 health with 83/74/65 base (249/222/195 match-3). That means if I make a tanky match-3 on every turn, I'd need 76-98 turns to beat him, while he'd need at minimum 43 turns. So, to have a decent chance, I'll have to boost match damage to 100% (402/312/360 and 38-49 turns), plus maybe another 50% (502/390/450 and 31-40 turns), where Anger triggers at 762. So, I'd kind of have to avoid match-4s and criticals AND make sure that I have a decent stockpile of purple and deny his red and green and it'd still probably be a neck-and-neck race. (And currently I only have 9 total +20% all match damage.)

Thankfully, the AI is stupid, so winning within two tries is feasible.

Edit: If I manage to pull the red cover in my Taco vault, I'd be able to level him to 168, with 11583 health (I'd have >47 turns to survive) and doing 71/55/63 damage, translating to 213/165/189 base (72-92 turns), 426/330/378 with +100% (36-47), or 532/412/472 with +150% (29-37).

Isn't Hulk only 2/2/2 for covers though? I would think Anger isn't as much of a sweat in this one as long as you can keep enough purple stocked up. I would still go for the match 4/5 with criticals as long as you aren't triggering Anger more than once or maybe twice on any given turn, especially if the board does not have much green on it in the first place. If the board is on the greener side, you might consider holding back, but otherwise I'd still try to blast him.

I burned my 102 taco tokens in the current vault for the Rulk green to bring him to 2/5/2, so I'm not anticipating too many issues on this one.

will be really interesting to see how you do Cousin. A non-invisible character doing only match damage? Good luck!

Based on round 2 and this quote, it should be doable:

I tried two times at level 94
Though not successful, but feel doable,
Then level up red hulk to 188, all damage boost, critical boost, +2 purple
, finish hulk in the first time. Got my first KP yellow cover

Managed it second attempt with my L111 2/2/1. +R/Y damage, +All damage, +CritBoosts. Only used Green once when Hulk was already down to 1700 to end it.

icon_falcon.png champ level for my troubles.
  • Hulk is 222lvl and he's anger only adds 1 greentile.png tile to the board. So crush the green candy as many times as you can, to make the fight easier :]

    THIS

I didn't think I had much of a shot at this one with only 2 green covers, but once again, the forum comes to rescue by breaking down the matchup in detail...so I took my 3/2/5 Rulk to 209 (since he's a solid 4* anyways) and this was easier than the big enchilada...

I have not been blessed with Rulk covers. Mine is only 1/0/1 so I doubt I will even try

1/3/2 Level 131 beat him first boosted try. Gave it a couple shots with no boosts, but at three green, Hammer & Anvil really doesn't do enough damage, even at 18 AP. Boosted to +50% R/Y match damage, +50% B/P match damage, +100% all match damage, follow accepted strategy (deny red, deny black, deny green, collect purple, wait till 18 AP to fire off Hammer). He went down, had about 900 HP left.

Fittingly, got a sweet token_legendary.pngicon_hulk.pngblackflag.png from the LT

3/5/5 Champed Rhulk. Hah, hat wasn't even a thing, completely squashed him with no boosts.

    purpleflag.pngicon_x23.png for the token, needed.

I beat him pretty handily with a 2/2/3 lvl 147 rhulk. Played it safe and boosted +2 purple and green. Did match dmg 100% waited until using green would kill him.

Got a freaking icon_invisiblewoman.pngblueflag.png for the trouble. SIgh

Beat him first time with a small Rulk, then champed him and Hulk is super easy. Surprised they kept Hulk at 3/3/3 or whatever at this point (his black is only putting one green tile out there).

Got a Rulk from the Rulk...therefore, still no real progression. I'm sure some would be thrilled with that!

really think this one could be increased in difficulty and the MFer/Doom and the Cho one could be eased up a bit.
