A few early game questions

Hi,
I'm on day 55, mostly play PvE, aiming for top50 subs when I can. Roster: https://mpq.gamependium.com/rosters/praam/
I got hit by scaling with my first 4*s early and I'm now very wary of leveling myself into a corner - keeping levels even and roster wide. I'm also starting to dislike opening any covers better than standard - 95% of the 4* and 50% of the 3* end up being sold. I still have a few missing covers in 2* land but rest aren't champed so getting 2*s usually feels a waste too. So I started hoarding the tokens until I have most of the 3*s slotted and hp for a few 4*s (a long time I guess). I got about 100 hoarded so far, quarter of them heroic, rest from events. Which brings me to the questions.
1. Given all that, is the hoarding a good idea at all?
2. Is there a difference between post-event and event tokens? Should I wait til the same event comes up next to get the most out of the cover pile?
3. I sometimes slot a single cover 4* if it's for progression, then sell after (unless it's profx or something). Rinse/repeat if I have the covers for new events. Will I regret this later?
4. I got 200k iso, 312 needed to champ all 2*s. Should I wait or champ a few now?
5. If I level my roster, does it get ANY easier? if the enemies catch up in level and I end up with less usable/leveled characters, then what's the point at all? other than champ rewards & big events.

Hey, I'm around day 90 myself so I was going through similar stage recently.
1. Most likely. Lack of roster space, low hp gains and increasing cost of roster slots is one of the most frustrating issues for me since week ~2. If you don't plan on spending $ for hp and investing them into roster space, there isn't that much you can do about it. Try to hit all the progression rewards in PvE and PvP that give you hp and invest them into more slots. Lack of roster space made me sell everything from fully covered 2* to 3* and 4* covers. I already regret a lot of it.
3. Probably, but not very soon. You are still very far away from 4* roster.
4. That's an interesting question. You will get more powerfull characters but scaling will jump as well.
Can you regularly clear Deadpool Daily Quest (if you have required 3*)? This is a great source of ISO, tokens and covers and difficulty doesn't scale.
5. From my experience - nope, it doesn't gert easier. Having multiple characters to choose from makes it easier, because 90% of the time you need to rely on boosted characters.0 -
Thanks for the answers. Back to iso/cover hoarding, it seems. It's a strange game - encourages winning little (no 4*s at start) and holding off on spending iso/prizes.
I'll buy the VIP thing, just to support the game. Other than that I collect all HP from PvE and ocassionally a PvP reward here or there. 400 is always possible if I have the time, 575 gets hard and 725 nearly impossible. Good thing is I'm in the newbie land PvP wise so I can make top 50 when I play. top 10 seems to need either a better roster or a shield.
I can make the DDQ without boosts at lvl78. I wiped spectacularly with my early favorite teams, then tried the mag/thor/storm and made it - at lvl70 vs 99+ 4 waves! It's an awesome team and my favorite battle so far.0 -
Do not spend HP on anything other than roster slots, and do not open tokens (other than standard) unless you have enough HP to buy a slot. When you do, keep opening until you get someone new and stop.
Level that DDQ team to 94. Also level up Original Black Widow. Then save your iso for the 3 stars.
Try not to sell 4 stars unless it is Cho. You will probably regret it later.0 -
Exactly the information I was looking for, thank you!
Why only the DDQ team? I thought it's good to champ all 2*s since they start giving HP back? Why should I rush to 3*s instead?
OBW got her first purple cover on day 50 - will level when I get the chance, she's great.0 -
You want to spend the iso on the heroes you will be using the most. Once you get a few 3 stars with enough covers, you won't use those other 2 stars except for essential nodes. You might also need to sell a few to make room so no point in investing too much into them. Heroes like Cap and Torch have 3 star versions that are immensely better than the 2 stars. Generally, the 2 stars can't keep up once you have 3 stars at an equivalent level. OBW will always be useful though.
I only keep a few 2 stars around. I keep one roster slot for 2 star essential nodes. I just recruit whoever it is with one cover from my queue and sell him after the event.0 -
That's the thing - I don't have a dream team yet. I just kill off all boosted characters while doing PvE (or PvP), then use healthpacks. Again - what about champion rewards? I realize they're very slow, but 2*s should be fastest and pay for themselves + generate some iso longterm. 250hp/17k iso per 2* champ sounds good - is it not worth it?0

About champion rewards, I personally think they worth it, especially if you're looking for those 3* covers, but it takes time to get all rewards. I'm transitioning to 3* land, can't tell you for sure but it seems that 4* rewards are better than 3*, I'm quite far from those anyway. Check out this post and this sheet, they can help.
I know everyone has their favorites, in the beginning I was just like you, had no idea which 3* or 4* to roster or sell, made a mess with a bunch of covers, but then I did some research and I'm trying to get the top 3* and I'll try to roster the top 4* if I get them. It's a slow process but the important thing is to get fun with it
Polarity's Guide, Dauthi's Guide and Character Rankings Feb/2016 are great places to start. DDQ is your main source to get 3* covers, but you need at least 1 cover of that character to start getting others, this calendar can help you to manage your covers in queue, when to roster it to get another cover, etc.
Sometimes we need to use what we have, there's no other way, so don't be afraid to soft cap characters that will help you in that event to get the rewards.0 -
Many good links, thank you. I was going by dauthi's some.
I'll probably end up with all 2* champs for the rewards (primarily HP really, covers welcome as well) and most of 3*s from PvE events, other than sentry/ragnarok. Already got about half. Will be more picky about 4*s - character rankings should help. I'm sure I'll waste a few 4* covers still.0 -
The champion rewards are great, but roster space is severely limited in the early game. You'll have to make some hard decisions.0
-
Hoarding is necessary if one does not want to spend any $$$ and if they are disciplined.
I have probably over 300 tokens unopened, and currently over 160 CP. It's not a fun way to play for most people, but I have the discipline for it.
A new hero slot costs me 900 hero points. I do not open ANY legendaries or use CP unless I can afford a new slot within a few days.
I usually play PvE events to get 400 points to get hero points, and PvE as much as possible to get everything. The newer progression is much better for me than play a game, wait 6 to however long it takes to recharge to full points.0 -
spatenfloot, I think there are hard decisions either way. Even if I removed my entire 2* roster I wouldn't be able to slot all the 3*s - nevermind the 4*s.
It's good to hear the champion rewards are worth it. They're the closest thing MPQ has to a passive income - everything else is a grind (or buyable, I guess).
byc: I got 400ish CP by now. I imagine I'll have several thousand before I start opening any up. I hope I have the patience for that.0 -
I don't keep all of the 3 stars either, but that is a personal preference.0
-
I forgot one thing:
If you aim at any specific placements in PvE or PvP it's worth it to experiment with different event start times. Yesterday I was able to finish top5 in my PvP bracket with lousy 580 points, using one 3h shield.
That's 75 hp invested, 150hp earned.
I was using non-boosted IM40 and Kamala Khan - both at 9 covers, so nothing special. I understand that rewards were meh (Sentry covers), but I'm happy with hp gain.0 -
Right, about that. How do you count 150hp? Current event has a 50hp difference between top50 and top10. I thought about shields before, but I don't see how to justify the 75hp spend.
Actually - I'm not even sure how shields work. Always assumed it's one use and then if you break it it's gone for good. Is it like that?0 -

Yes, shields are gone once you fight someone.0
