Think I "broke" the game

Was testing a deck with kiora against story mode, breaker of armies boss(BFZ boss befor the last one).

Ok usual stuff happening.
He summons an Ulamog.
Nice! That's MY Ulamog... Exert influence.
The very next turn he kills it. icon_e_sad.gif

Ok whatever...
Then I keep controlling... The game lasts long...

Until Ulamog comes back...
Not from him, from my deck!

I DREW ULAMOG FROM MY DECK. There is no Ulamog in my deck of course!

My guess is that after a certain number of decks are generated(and believe me I drew MANY CARDS) the game reshuffles the graveyard in the deck.
It was really unexpected XD

  • That's "normal"

If you return a creature to had after Exert Influence, the current controller will get it in his hand no matter who started the game with it. It also goes to that player graveyard which is supposedly reshuffled after a number of cards

No no no you did not read.
The creature did not return to hand.

It died and MANY TURNS LATER(think at the very least 10) I drew the card from my deck
I did not notice the actual act of drawing it, but with so many draws from various effects that's normal.
I got it suddenly in hand as I stated anyways so the only logical conclusion is that I drew it from my deck.

The reshuffling in last sentence is what occurred but I think until now there was no real proof of it happening neither would it be effectively needed(this is a digital game, you can keep generating new deck virtually forever, excluding memory limits).

Most likely the mechanic that allows the exert influence card to work needs to add it to your deck for you to control it and the game not crash.

I wonder if this can be proved with a creature-less Kiora deck. Exert influence to add it to your deck, then Gather the Pack or Seek the Wilds to focibly generate a target to reinforce it. Should be able to test this theory pretty quickly.

Did it get killed with Roil Spout?

That will put it in your deck.

Edited to add: I think that if a straight Exert Influence added it to your deck to make it work you would:
    1. get mastery points for it
    2. would have seen this happen long before now

Tried this. Exert Influence by itself does not add it to your deck. Both Gather the Pack or Seek the Wilds failed to cast whist creature was alive.

Will now try killing it, bouncing it, and using Roil Spout. If possible.

    EDIT:
Waited to cast the following in one turn: Exert Influence --> Roil Spout --> Seek the Wilds. Only one copy of the creature I bounced was available, no extras were generated.

Have not killed it to try it that way.

    EDIT 2:
Cast: Exert Influence --> Reclaim. Next turn had enough Loyalty for Kiora's Swirling Waters Ability, no targets, not triggered. Also had Seek the Wilds the turn after, no targets, card has red "no" symbol present.

There must be a "Shuffle graveyard back into the deck" triggering at some point in long games. Wonder if Day's Undoing will trigger this as well? Don't have it so i can't check.

No cards mention the Graveyard either, just "Returned to the battlefield".

I could even try to recreate it if my opponent kills it (or could even kill it myself using turn to frog).

The main issue is that you need to draw A LOT.
I am not kidding, I think I was drawing like 4 cards on average each turn for like 15+ turns.
By that time, it is possible the opponent, even being a boss, is already dead.

Maybe if I find some time I can try doing it while recording...
  • From what I've seen on the forums, you supposedly have 4 copies of every of your 10 cards. When you run out of cards in your deck your graveyard gets reshuffled. I'm really not sure about any of this, but I've always been puzzled why the Sylvan Messenger would sometimes not get another one when entering the battlefield. Such limitation would hint that would could simply run out of elves to fetch.
