I posted this in a different thread that promptly died, so here it is again:

RADIOACTIVE – Fight it out to decide the most powerful victim of Stan Lee’s 1950’s-era fear of radiation!
Buffed: Spider-man, Daredevil, and Hulk.

X-FACTOR – Mutants only: throwing a bone to the few suckers who blew Iso on Juggernaut and Daken.
Exclusive to: All three Wolverines, both Storms, both Magnetos, Jugs and Daken.

DARK AVENGERS – They’ve done this before I think, but not since they gave everyone 20+ Ares covers. Everyone having him at level 85 should help competitive balance…right?
Exclusive to: Ares, Venom, Daken, Moonstone, Bullseye, and Ragnorak. (Yelena Belova was not part of the Dark Avengers. She ran the Thunderbolts while Osborn was Iron Patriot. Speaking of, any day now! Also, Sentry at some point.)

USED TO BE COOL – Continuing the trend of requiring recently nerfed characters in tourneys.
Buffed: Thor, Wolverine, and Ragnorak (Spider-man, after the nerf).

THE REPLACEMENTS – Funny how Hulk, Punisher and Ares and introduced right before nerfing characters with similar power sets…
Buffed: Ares, Punisher, and Hulk (Daredevil, after the Spider-man nerf)

I DARE YOU – Let’s see who’s dumb enough to spend Iso/money leveling up characters that have absolutely no value!
Required: Modern Black Widow, Classic Hawkeye, Yelena Belova, Bag-Man.

Can only use wolverine (any), daken , psylocke, BP, venom, hawkeye (any), bullseye. But similar to mirror you can use more than 1 wolverine (but not 2 of the same). COuld end up being strike tiles versus protect,

No buffs.

At least in MPQ Yelena is a DA. Not like anyone would use her in the event anyway but she still would have to be given access.

I do not think they would call attention to their shortcomings like that but cute idea.

A lot of people are specifically pointing out in their "design-a-tourney" that a wolvie can fight a wolvie of rags can fight rags etc etc.

Just wanted to point something out here. It is Pve where you can't fight someone on the enemy team of same character. Pvp there has never been any restrictions like that that I am aware of.

How about new game modes?
5v5 Ultimate Team Tournament
1v1 Best there is - aka Patch is better than everyone tourney or Spidey wins but it takes 2 hours tourney (not as interesting)
Survival Mode -3vN where N doesn't stop until you die, no hp. Oh and spidey and OBW are banned.
A new mode parallel to Shield Training called Ranked where an ELO score is assigned and publicly displayed based on numerics. That way we know who is better after all.
Vendetta Mode - After Introducing friends and enemies list and in-game chat features, you can challenge specific people to either friendly matches or timed matches with a stake. No **** AI just pvp.

you want PVE, you got it.

Bosses. I'm not talking about a 200% lameduck like Ares who can't even find a shirt the right size. I'm talking about Galactus with a 10^6 HP bar where mulitple people have to fight him to take him down. So rather than cumulative score for unlocking new nodes, that's the Boss HP.
So you start with Galactus' Heralds (Silver surfer, Nova, whoever...) then eventually you have to kick Galactus out. Everyone loves it. The a month later, Thanos comes to down and he is bringing Death with him...

(note: not fit the current programming)

You enter with a snapshot of your current roster. The snapshot is updated at every end of game with the ending stats.

On initial entry you post a defense team. It can be changed any time. You can't use that part of roster for offense. Each hero has X defense points, that goes 1 up or down after getting attacked. That team keeps full health but once down to 0 count is not eligible for defense anymore. If not replaced it time by the player a random other eligible character jumps in as substitute (not used on offense ATM).

You can leave fighter slots empty (i.e. go with just 1 or 2 heroes).

No healing. No boosts. No tinikittens.

You can fight till out of heroes.

Played within bracket, no external MMR used.

Need adjustments to match offers, skipping and points will update this part later. Some real swiss-like thing probably.
Possibly can win limited healing/resurrect measures in battles fought.
