Chandra's scorching strike damages through the hexproof buff from the new event sphinx card. I've sent a ticket in on this already.

You mean her second ability? That is not targeted damage, so it should hit hexproof creatures.

Yep. majincob hits it right on the nose - this is not a bug or a glitch - this is working as intended through wording. Chandra hits ALL enemy creatures... period.
  • Guess I misunderstood the hexproof when it says "cannot be targeted by enemy spells and abilities". Mass ae spells are the exception then. Got it now.

That's right. Usually, any targeted card/ability effect won't hit a Hexproof card. But effects hitting all monsters on the field still count.

But what of Planeswalkers' Loyalty-based abilities? I wasn't sure if they still affected Hexproof'd creatures with their one-target abilities (like Ob Nixilius's LV 2 murder ability).

It is also worth noting that disabled creatures lose their hexproof ability while disabled.

Yup. Hexproof trumps single target effects but is trumped by disable(some not all? not sure) and mass targeting effects.

Crush of Tentacles and Displacement Wave and maybe Great Aurora penetrate hexproof. Things like Languish should as well.

As for disable I haven't tested it but I know that the disable from Prism Array penetrates hexproof and you can then use single target on them since the hexproof is inactivated.
