OML "Dilemma"

I finally decided to spend the full 720 CP to cover max my OML due the the abysmal odds of pulling either a Red or Yellow cover I would have needed to cover max him. He's now Level 350 @ 5 4 4.
So, of course within the next 2 or 3 Classic tokens I pull an OML Yellow...

I have enough ISO to Champ him so I don't waste this cover.
However, I have a feeling it will completely ruin my PVP MMR and PVE scaling, especially with whatever they have cooked up for the "new PVE" format. Every test has had the scaling set way too high, so I have little faith they will keep it close to what it's like now (we all now it will be worse than current scaling, what with the higher than 395 enemies, which I don't even understand how they think people want that.).
Anyway, my next closest 5 stars are a 1 2 4 Silver Surfer and a 4 1 2 Phoenix. So not usable, even if I leveled them. I only even have 3 total 5 star characters to begin with.
I've been hoarding Legendaries for a while now (19 and counting!) cause the chances of me pulling a 13th or 6th cover for one of my 4 Star characters is higher than pulling a cover I could actually use, and of course better than pulling a 5 star of any cover.

So my question is, should I just champ my OML?
I will have a huge roster level gap between him and my next highest character (which are 2 champed 4 stars at Level 273).
In people's experience, how badly does a move like this affect things? Is his healing and raw damage output just too good to counteract being stuck in a bad MMR place where I fight nothing but full 5 star teams I can't beat, or will lose a ton of health chewing through?
I've got 12 days to decide...

Hmm I imagine it will ruin your PvP mmr as someone in my alliance took his oml to the 360 level and now he gets matched against 5* teams all the time. For pve I don't think it will matter much because your match damage and healing will mean oml will beat most nodes on his own anyway

My OML is 430 right now I have 12 covers (I just pulled my 6th red yey! icon_e_sad.gif ), but I have 12 champed 4s (and I will start leveling my PH soon), so our situation is similar but not exactly.

In PvE my levels usually capped at the 325 range in normal PvE events and in 395 in the Gauntlet like, so in general the experience of having OML helps a LOT. In the last PvE test the scaling went up to 430 or so (If I remember correctly), so the experience was much worse :S

In PvP I can 'easily' get to 1300, I still get attacked by other champed 5 teams, but with one hop or two I usually get there. OF course I fight against OML all the time, but if yours is champed 95% of the time yours will have a higher level.

So this is the big dilemma, levelling or not levelling. THIS SHOULD NOT BE A DILEMMA, we would ALWAYS have to benefit from levelling our chars. It is completely stupid that we have this dilemma. Devs FIX SCALING ASAP.

PS: I am not 100% sure because I had just recently levelled my OML to 430, but it looks like that the teams I see now are stronger than the ones I was seeing at 420. I will continue monitoring this situation (It may be because it was Peggy's PvP and I had to climb earlier than usually).

I think the biggest issue with levelling a 5* is that it nullifies your entire roster.

You'll get matched with teams that Make it so 4* characters are peashooters by comparison to the weapons of mass destruction that 5* are and given the massive lack of diversity in This tier I'm not levelling mine until the community has more 5* better covered and I'm not facing oml/Phoenix teams all the time.

The diversity is a big problem for me. I've come across a gg and a bss once each..I lost both times but you know what? I enjoyed the loss far more than the hundreds of wins I've had against oml or Phoenix just By virtue of variety.

Note: I do not run high level 5* teams but end up seeing well covered 5* (but unlevelled) in my mmr brackets

even with a 405, pvp is "who will I put in the 3rd slot". this week with no good boosteds I actually switched last night between rulk and xpool and it was fun and I used 2 health packs climbing from 620ish to 1100s. when there's a good boosted, its the good boosted in the 3rd slot every match. when there's 2 good boosteds, I don't think i'll ever be compelled to put OML on the bench to run both. I remember the week cyke and ice were boosted before I had my oml yellow and that was a fun week. now I'd have to choose which to go with. there are certain things where I wish I would not have pushed so high - pvp and the 'new' pve system that keeps getting tested. but...there are also things that I would NOT want to de-level my OML - boss events, shield simulator, old style pve. I will say getting that yellow and pushing my oml up between cw1 and cw2 made cw2 SO. MUCH. EASIER. but that shouldn't be a primary driver of leveling decisions.

my only real regret in leveling him is pvp. I quickly learned that mmr keeps you visible to those above you. unless you're running 5s in the 500s, there will be guys above you (roster-wise) who are happy to see your team and pop you. 3* teams happily hit 2* teams. 4* teams happily hit 3* teams. boosted 4s happily hit unboosted 4s. 405s happily hit 360s. 450s happily hit 405s. because of all of this, if you're satisfied with your pvp performance, don't level a 5* thinking it will get easier. OML saves a ton on health packs, but my scoring has only slightly increased. not dramatically. saving on health packs is great for longer prolonged sessions, but once you cross 1K or 1100, you'll still get hit because you're worth points and that is what drives hits. not primarily roster strength (although it is a secondary driver).

One champed 5star is no issue if you are a 4star champ player right now. It's the second that does weird things to your MMR.

Not sure I'd go quite as far as Daiches, here, as I wouldn't recommend it if you were talking about Surfer or 5Cap. But OML is certainly worth leveling. He was my first leveled 5*, and leveling him from 330->390 was, literally, a game changer. My MMR did get a little bit worse, but it was totally worth it.

Daiches is right on, though, insofar as leveling a second 5* into that range will really mess with your MMR. And, as others have mentioned, make it really difficult to use other characters. Approach that step with great caution.

What if I just take my second 5* to around 280, which is still lower than many of my champed 4*s? Will that screw up my MMR as well? I just want to strengthen my 5*s a little bit for PVE, not PVP. And I'm too impatient to wait a few more years for them to get to 13 covers...

280 is definitely in "who cares?" range. In fact, that range probably extends up to around 330 if you have a decent selection of 4* champions. Above 330 is where I start getting leery.
