Alliance management issues
First, I just want to say I like the idea of alliances and I think the latest event will be fun. However, longterm, I feel there will be problems in management.
First is distribution of power. Right now, the alliance I'm in is basically "buy your spot". Which seems fair, but to do this they need to be given equal power. I'm not even talking about trust issues, but what if they go inactive? There's no way for the "leader" to kick him.
Then there's the whole issue of even figuring out whether he's active or not because no information is detailed. I suppose the most basic level of online/offline indicator would be implemented alongside the talked about messaging system, but I would also like to see # of points as well.
Tl;dr I would like greater level of heirarchy and player info.

I just assume all that stuff is in the works and being implemented as it's finished.0

One of the following things needs to happen re: paying to expand:
-the newcomer pays
-the cost gets split evenly among the whole alliance
-members can donate to an alliance treasury
I stared an alliance for the forum I post at, there will probably be more than five people joining, and I'm sure as hell not shouldering the burden of expansion by myself.0 -
I think you can kick people out if you're a Commander by clicking on their profile? I see the button but I never tried clicking.
Of course, this brings another issue, if you make someone a Commander so that he can pay for his spot, what's stopping him from kicking everyone out? Or are Commanders unable to be kicked out? But then that guy could just never give up his Commander status then. A demote option wouldn't work because all he has to do is demote everyone else first and then you'd never be able to get rid of him.0 -
I think an "Alliance Leader" rank is necessary to ensure that he can promote/demote Commanders, and if he ever goes MIA, there should be an option to vote kick him (which will require at least 75% of the members voting "Yes").0

You can't kick or demote commanders. So, yeah - it creates a few problems currently. If you want people to 'pay' for their spots, you need to make them a commander. (You could mayyyybe ask them to leave and rejoin...but I actually think there's a cooldown period for alliance requests.) Then, they are stuck in the group until they leave on their own accord.
Altogether not stuff I'm currently worried about, but I think if Alliances really take off, these things should be considered.0 -

RIght now since the bigger alliances have an overwhelming advantage I'd imagine there'd be a lot of mercenary floating around who certainly have no qualms about messing you up if they have to pay for their spots. While some people will always be jerks, right now the enviornment is likely to encourage people to be jerks.0 -
Bumping this thread because I was going to start a new thread myself saying basically the same thing. The problem I have is that people PM me saying that they'll buy their own slot, but the fact is that I have to buy the slot myself, accept their invitation request, and MAKE THEM A CO-COMMANDER before I can even find out whether they'll keep to their word. At that point that could choose not to spend any HP, promote other players (even the inactive ones) or kick them, and generally be a **** and there's nothing I can do about it. It's a pretty big ask to invite someone in and give them such power and then just hope they keep to their word, but the real problem is having no power to do anything about it if they don't. This definitely needs more attention, it's the single biggest issue with alliances and possibly the game as a whole right now, it needs more dev attention!0

I'd like to see the ability to send messages to other alliance members.
Obviously it's possible to communicate to each other here on the forums, but not everyone uses their same username and/or is on the forums.0 -
In the meantime, you could always report any Alliance griefers to the forum, so they don't get to do it again.0
