Mission impossible: the last of Cpt2, Kozilek, in OGW events

I'm able to do it every week with a Nissa deck. I have one mythical card (rather new player) and it's the UChampion. The rest are cheap green ramping cards (don't have anything better) and a Mantle of Webs to def against flyers. Also using a Scour from Existence so I can kill the octopus' after Crush of the Tenctales.
Also some cheap important cards for my deck: Seek the Wilds (to get those UChampions when luck is not with me), Retreat to Kazandu (so landfalls give +2/+2 to UC instead of +1/+1).
Only using 2 creatures: UC and Nissa Naturalists (extra dmg and support removal - very important against that mana ramping sup but not against mirrorpool since UC can handle the big creatures).
I won't lie - I always need like 10 attempts or more but I succeed eventually (need to have some luck for the opponent not to cascade too much in the begining).0 -
I can beat kozilek fairly easily, running koth with:
Jori en, ruin diver
Zendikar incarnate
Abbot of keral keep
Call of the wild
Scour from existence
Mina and Denn, wildborn
Chandras ignition
Kozilek the great distortion
Rolling thunder
Exquisite firecraft
A bit rare/mythic heavy but I test cards for this deck against kozilek and win roughly 2/3 of the time. Basic rules of thumb is, if your opponent isn't actively denying you all red gems then you will probably win.
The real core is to stick a zendikar incarnate and try to keep a Mina or Jori in play and use most turns for removal.0 -

The Gideon deck took out Kozilek on my third try. It uses either Iroa's Champion or Consul's Lieutenant for the First Strike, War Oracle + Serene Steward combo to give the Champion/Lieutenant +1/+1 every turn, and Gideon's first and third power to make them a monster.
Then sit back and use disable/remove spells and supports to keep things moving. Eventually, you get a 30/30 or better Iroa's Champion killing things pretty quickly...
Would love to see your deck list. I have a similar build, and I get smeared every time. It seems like the mana curve is way too high, Kozilek moves too fast. Maybe I have a messed up build.0 -

unfortunately it seems Mirrorpool still eludes me. I play against it a BUNCH.speakupaskanswer wrote:Blight Herder is nice but not absolutely necessary, but Mirrorpool is just perfect. Doubling any of the big Eldrazi is hard to get around by the opponent, and a reinforced Breaker of Armies breaks even more.snow_leopardd wrote:was mirrorpool and blight herder necessary? I only ask because I don't have them.speakupaskanswer wrote:I thought I'd never beat him and then it was relatively easy.
Level 47 Liliana
Creatures:
Blight Herder
Breaker of Armies
Culling Drone (not really necessary)
Ulamog's Despoiler
Drana, Liberator of Malakir
Spells:
Mirrorpool
Hedron Blade (also not necessary)
Shrine of the Forsaken Gods
Scour from Existence
Transgress the Mind
It worked by discarding as much as possible, removing if necessary and making the creatures huge. And some luck.0 -
I have yet to beat this ever. I have tried all the decks I could possibly come close to making listed here. I never get ahead of him. Very frustrating.0

Just for fun:
Ingesting the entire board vs "all-color" Kozilek with Ulamog. https://youtu.be/Wg6FIKpsDjc0 -
It's an old thread, but there are many ways to just beat him. Do you mean to win the objectives as well?0

just beat him. No matter what I build with Gideon, ob nix, or Kiora, never works.0 -

Haha that's great. Now you just gotta have a hand full of devoid cards so anytime he attacks, they get filled up.
Drowner of Hope
Dust Stalker
Serpentine Spike
Kozilek's Return
Brutal Expulsion
Crumble to Dust
I mean, it might be pretty bad but it would certainly add to the insanity.0 -

I have to wonder what decks you are using. Do you have Ajani yet? You have been playing for at least 8 months. Certainly you have a good amount of mythics at this point?0 -
I can beat him pretty easily with Nahiri, Sorin and Jace2. Jace 2 is almost all common/uncommon. I'll help you with a build if you have a card list.0
-
I think it is doable with almost all pw. It just depends on your cards and a bit of luck. The key thing to beat him is to remember two things:
1) he has only one support destroy - world breaker
2) he has only 2 remove spells - crush and remorless punishment
Having this in mind - perfect planeswalker for this encounter will be the one witch can:
Easily kill opp creatures
Make your own creatures bigger consistently
Has any way to increase own life (not mandatory but can cover bad luck in matches)
Condition one:
black pw with access to kill spells,
red ones for damage - ideally hitting all creatures at once,
white - every creature of kozilek have more than 4 life so Smith works perfectly
Condition two: (in order of usefulness for me):
Koth - require support but easy to trigger when on board
Nahiri - Cheap, easy to trigger but only once per turn
Liliana2 - require support and heavy zombie deck
Sorin - require support and some form of lifelink or two supports
Aerlinn - require werewolves, hard to pull, but when turned is a beast
Jace2 - support based, easy to trigger though when on board
Gideon - expensive for giving all creatures, but having first strike defender with champion with regeneration and berserker - worth waiting for a few turn
Dovin - support based, need energy based deck but can be triggered multiple times in turn
The last thing to notice - ai don't exile cards. So if you have imprisoned in the moon and/or turn to frog - use it to block creature spots on board.
Take also look on your card list: creatures that can grown permanently or have dual purposes are your friend.
I don't want to post any list as you can say that you don't have specific cards. Deckbuilding for difficult encounter is not easy but it is really good way to learn the secrets of the game.0 -
