Were the random really bright flashes ever explained?

I'm referring to the quick bright white flash that sometimes happens when you make a match; I've noticed it happens very rarely, but it's been going on for about as long as this game's been around. I've heard people talk about it a long time ago, but I don't think I ever heard an official response for it. I'm mainly asking now because, for some reason, I'm seeing it a lot in the Storm essential node in The Hunt and I'm not sure if they're trying to induce epileptic seizures or are sneaking some subliminal messages to buy more HP in there.

I've had those happen on Steam. Extra-bright flash when a match is made. Haven't figured out a pattern to them.
