Exert Influence issues/questions

Working with Exert Influence I am seeing some inconsistencies.

If I grab an Honored Hierarch I get no mana from popping an activation. If my opponent pops one then THEY still get the 5 mana.

If I steal a Dwynen, Gilt-Leaf Daen and pop the activation then I get the +1/+1 (and to be honest I didn't see who got the life gain).

Is this right? It seems pretty inconsistent. Creatures that provide benefit on death all seem to go back the the original caster as well but that might be by design.

Edited to add list of observations:

Honored Hierarch: Opponent pops gem, opponent gets mana.
Dwynen, Gilt-Leaf Daen: I pop gem, my creatures get bonus.
Beastcaller Savant: Opponent pops gem, opponent gets mana.
Oran-Rief Invoker Opponent pops gems, I get bonus for Oran-Rief Invoker.
Eldrazi Scions: Die as my creature, opponent gets mana.
Disciple of the Ring I pop gem, I get buff, opp gets mana loss
Fetid Imp I pop gem, Imp gets buff

This is a bug for sure.

How much of a bug/inconsistency needs further invrstigation.

The main factor is: in both cases were the activation gems created while the creature was in your control or opponent?

It could b that if the gems were created while not under your control the benefit goes to the original owner.
Then probably on your next beginning of turn after, if those are created again you will be the one getting the benefit.

I cleared a large number of them, definitely ones the showed up while I had control.

Also Oran-Rief Invoker's activate gems need to be popped by the original caster as well.
