Why play the test pve?

Disclaimer: some of this may be a tad frustrating to read.
I've seen plenty of posts from people both before and during this EotS test stating they could/can see giant flaws that would be exploited. Namely the finish quick finish first mechanism.
Lots complained and said it was awful and said they would boycott it. Why did they not? Its a genuine question I'm interested to know why they played an event which they believed would be awful?
Curiosity? You can't be curious if you know the event is awful.
Masochism? Plenty on this forum are masochistic so that could be valid.
Iso? That is definitely one which could be true it was half the reason I played.
Coming into this test I prepared myself (as with the other tests - all of which are an improvement over 8 hour refreshes in my opinion), I accepted that it was a race. I accepted that it might be tough (though I knew it wouldn't be as bad as bugged gauntlet). I tried to play how I normally play in these tests.
I played to test this test how I thought it was meant to be tested, for iso and to see if I could place t10 like With the other tests. I even gave myself the added challenge of starting straight away and not allowing myself to bracket snipe (as I sometimes do).
If you were one of those boycott people who then played anyway why did you play? Its a genuine question so please don't take offence.

ISO and 7 day vaults.0
-
easy progression, a little iso and to help my alliance. i wont be doing anything for personal placement. ill probably be lucky be top 500 with the way people are grinding in my bracket.0
-
ISO, ISO and more ISO. Have you see the rewards in this 2-day sub? By my rough count, there was nearly 17k ISO, 15 standard tokens, 1 event token and 4 CP. Not bad for a day's work. And that doesn't even include the placement rewards or the end-of-sub rewards.0
-
To try it out.
Turns out I like it more than the old PvE.0 -
It's an ISO gold mine. 10k/day plus tokens, HP, and CP. I'll make nearly 100k after 7 days of work. Green Goblin ain't gonna level himself!0
-
The lack ofa timer is enough reason to try it out.
I ended up liking it way more than Ithought I would.0 -
As others have stated, it's ISO heaven right now. But also, I do think people are playing it less. Seems like the slices are filling a LOT slower than normal. Mine is currently only half full where as the last few events I've played it would have flipped at least once by now, maybe even twice. It's barely gained 200 people in the last 24 hours.0

ISO and the 25 CP.0
-
I'm only going to keep playing for the ISO. With the number of clears and scaling it just isn't worth my time. I would rather burn healthpacks on an hour of PVP where I can actually show progress.
EDIT: I doubt I will even play enough to hit the 25CP which will be the first time since the first two tests.0 -

Essentially this.
After day one I realised I'd fallen so far behind in the placement that there was no point. I was going to give up, but then I heard tell of the ISO and realised...yeah...there IS a lot of ISO here.
So I finished the first sub event having clear nodes more times than I would have done in the normal system and ended up in top 400 for that sub event, meaning placement is a complete waste of time. I'm going purely for the rewards now, grabbing what I can to fill my coffers.0 -
reason not playing....hate wave nodes... now do a test without waves and i be all over it0

The only reason most of the playerbase will suffer and slog through 7 day PvEs. Plus without the timer it becomes a pick up and play GAME (not the CHORE it has always been) that I can play anytime I like, and earn ISO while I'm at it. Quite frankly it's rather enjoyable having to play without the stress of finishing quick.
Not going for placement this time, but I'll probably go crazy if it was a new release.0 -
Thanks for the responses guys.
I was genuinely interested why people were playing.
NOTE TO DEVS: the number 1 reason why people are playing a test that they hate and wish they could skip is iso.
That's tells you that adding more iso in this test was a great idea.0 -
I'm playing for ISO and CE and a tonne of vault tokens.
EotS had always been fairly generous with rewards, and boosted Quake completely negates caltrops.
That said, I am not enjoying this at all.
Personally, I'd still just much rather have 8hr refreshes.0 -
ISO and ISO alone. I might get lucky and win the 25 cp. We'll see.0
-
I almost always play PvE at least until I get all the CP from it, and often try for all green check marks just so that I can maximize the rewards that are available to me. Unfortunately to do that in this event requires play at the most competitive level which I just don't have time for.
Also, I find it difficult to provide feedback on the event (critical or otherwise) without having at least attempted it.
Boycotts are juvenile.0 -
I wasn't one of those that your post is asking because I play no matter what, but I had doubts about this test. After the weekend, I am pleasantly surprised how much I like this test. I had a weekend schedule full of activities for the kids, but no timers still had me top 50 in each sub and all the ISO was icing on the cake. That's a win for me. I'm not going to discount all those that hate this test, but for me personally this has been great.0

The Vault - I pulled a Magneto and the LT which gave me a mean teen Jean cover, looking forward to hopefully getting the red Thing or another Iron Fist out of it.
Iron Fist progression reward.
