How many 3 stars should I keep?

I've started getting so many 4 stars that I'm not sure how many 3 stars I should save (and I can't earn coins fast enough to earn slots for them all.) I could make a post on who to cut - I've done that in the past, and received good advice, but my problem is that I feel like I'm having to cut a new 3 star every week or so just to make room for all my new 4 stars.

Of course, I'll save the 3 stars that I've got quite a few covers for, but are the rest even worth keeping if I'm working on the 4 star transition? My only concern is that I know I should try to have a few 3 stars just for essential nodes on story missions. How many do you feel is sufficient? Should I get rid of poor quality 4 stars (say, Venom) to keep good 3 stars, like Magneto? Or is having Venom for essential nodes better since I can get command points with them? Thanks in advance for your thoughts, and sorry if this is the wrong forum to post this in.

hard to give you advice without seeing your roster. the easy answer is 'all of them', but that requires money for hp for slots. if that isn't an option, I need to know where you are in the game progression. are your 3s champed? are they soft-capped but covered? are you still working on covering 3s? 4s are important but I'd keep most of the 3s. if slots are that scarce, I'd keep at least 20-30 3*s and the top 10 or so 4s. that will also depend on how you are performing in pvp. are you making 1K? if so, the 4s become more important because you'll be adding at least 3 covers a week. lots of variables that need to be defined to give a good answer.

You really think Venom is a bad 4* ?? Think again it's crazy powerful. I myself am transitioning to 4* land too and can help a bit. See my roster? There is pretty much your answer ie keep only the best 4*'s and 3*'s and let the **** ones go. Keep only so many 3*s that you can make a few compatible teams out of them for pve and pvp. I have all of the 3*s except vision, sentry, ragnarok, dock ock and rocket & groot. Ragnarok and Sentry I will not waste roster space but could for Vision. Rest of them in my roster are also almost all 4*s (except DD, Electra, Howard, Miles M, Mr F, Nova, Spider G, The Hulk totally **** and War machine) + a few 2*s and 1* IM.

I've never been able to hit 1k on PVP but I've managed to place very highly on many PVE events (got first place in Venom Bomb). Thats how i got so many covers. I'm also saving up a bunch of tokens b/c i dont have free slots, so i dont know what to do with 'em.

    Roster of 3s:

Rocket and Groot - 10 Covers
    Quicksilver: 9 Covers
    Falcon: 9 Covers
    Iron Fist: 5 Covers
Iron Man (3 star): 4 covers
    Loki: 5 covers
    Black Pather: 4 covers
    Magneto: 4 covers
    Scarlet Witch: 3 Covers
    Daken: 3 Covers

I also have tons of 4 star characters at 1 cover each. Venom, Hulkbuster, Elektra, Deadpool, Nick Fury, Kate Bishop, Sider Gwen, Wolverine X Force.

    In recruit queue:
    Blade
    Quake
    Punisher (4 star)

Thanks so much for your thoughts.

need to try and figure out a way to keep: hb, deadpool, xfw, quake, and 4pun. but, the 3*s will be your primary playing level for a long time still yet. so other than those 4s I might sell some of the lower 4s (Elektra and kate first). all of your lower covered 3s are really good characters, along with blade in your queue. eventually you could do without quicksilver, but he's one of your highest covered guys, so I wouldn't sell him. so, unfortunately I'd sell some 4s to make room for more important ones. I'd keep all 3 of your queue and sell Elektra, kate, and either venom or gwen (not sure which). how many 1s and 2s do you have? if you have more 1s than just jugs, you might be able to trim there. or if you have any of the bottom 2s, I'd do that before selling any 4s. that'd be cap, bullseye, marvel, torch, bagman, or moonstone. the other 2s are good but can start being sold when you get more 3s covered. most people only end up with 4-6 2*s. I have 5, but once I finish champing my 3s I'm planning on completing all 2s as well. roster slots get easier later, but much later if you are strictly f2p. good luck.

I have been a strictly f2p player so far and in 10 months I managed to get to 63 slots. That is enough space for 40 star.pngstar.pngstar.png , 1 star.png , and 22 slots left for any combination of star.pngstar.png, star.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.png and star.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.png . I almost never shield, 95% of my HP goes to new slots.

I just really enjoy making sure I have at least 1 essential character in every PvE (in my case, I have all star.pngstar.pngstar.png ) and even bottom tier chars have their uses when boosted.

Right now I'm struggling to keep up with a wave of new star.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.png , but I really don't want to get rid of any star.pngstar.pngstar.png . Even Sentry, Ragnarok and Colossus. 1-cover Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman will have to go first if I can't buy new slots fast enough.

    TC:

I generally agree with TxMoose's advice (though I think Kate is going to end up being a fairly strong 4*). If you can't afford, or don't want, to keep all 3*s and 4*s that you get, then the way to prioritize is probably:

OML (if you happen to pull any covers for him)
Top Tier 3*s (your bread and butter for many months of upcoming transition)
Top Tier 4*s (consensus lists of the best 4*s are available elsewhere on the forums)
Enough 2*s to handle DDQ + Juggs
remaining 4*s and 3*s as determined by personal preference

You can make your own choices about holding on to other 5*s you might pull. They are all useful in some capacity (if only for the match damage), but might have a detrimental effect on your scaling until you have a few maxed 4*s. (OML, IM46, and GG are the best. Phoenix and BSS are the mid tier, and SS and 5* cap are the bottom tier).
