4* champ decisions

Have some expiring 4* covers and only enough iso to champ 1 of them.

Kingpin (currently 3/5/5 @ 188, ~295k to champ) with 1 cover expiring in 36 hours.

Ant-man (currently 4/4/4 @ 145 ~345k to champ) with 3 covers expiring in about 90 hours.

I have about 350k iso saved up. Also a handful of unchamped 3*s.

None of the premier 4*s are above 10 covers (though several are at 8/9).

I would normally say Antman because 3 > 1, but if you don't have any of the big boys ready to go, Kingpin's buff week starts tomorrow. So you might get more immediate dividends from getting him Champed and running him with Switch (also buffed).

Do you PvE? If so, antman is amazing in EoTS and other PvE events with special tile goons. Otherwise I would 100% say Kingpin, especially with the boosted list next week as Grumpy pointed out.

    Argh, paralyzed by indecision.

Kingpin is boosted this week, but so is imhb (whom I have champed already), so I likely wouldn't use him much this week anyway.

Neither kingpin nor ant-man are clearly so good as to champ immediately.

    I have:

    Fury @ 13 (5/5/3) (???)
    Elektra @ 13 (5/5/3) (???)
    Flaptain @ 12 (4/4/4) (kicks **** in boss battles)
Carnage @ 12 (3/4/5) (defensive value when boosted)
    Cyclops @ 10 (4/3/3) (top tier)
Thing @ 10 (0/5/5) (runs well with my champ xpool)
    Ghost Rider @ 10 (2/4/4) (useful for 5* transition)
    JG @ 9 (3/2/4) (top tier)
    Iceman @ 8 (2/4/2) (king of 4* land)
    Nova @ 8 (4/1/3) (borderline top tier)

Most of those characters seem at least arguably more useful to me than ant-man or kingpin for the stated reasons (except fury/elektra, and maybe carnage and flaptain). Kinda leaning towards stockpiling so that I can champ whichever clearly useful 4* I cover first, even if it means selling a few covers.

Is that the wrong choice? Are 4* champs so strong right now that it's worth having as many as possible as fast as possible just to increase the odds of having at least 1 each week?

that probably depends on how satisfied you are with your current pvp performance at your current mmr. if you're satisfied and having no trouble reaching your goals, I'd say stockpile. if you're having issues, adding boosted champed 4s really helps, especially if there are 2 that work well together in a week. I think antman is highly situational - excellent in certain scenarios and not very good in others. if you play lots of OML and don't have one yet, you can use his strikes to your advantage, but if you're facing a lot of boosted cyke/jean/ice/rulk, antman just doesn't do nearly as much. kp will always have health and a cheap, strong poke. for you, I'd do kp first but admittedly, since I have a functional OML, I'd do antman since kp just has too much color overlap with OML.

Ant Man + boosted + switch + IM40 = 18k damage haymakers all day long

Kingpin and Hulkbuster is a pretty cool pair, actually. icon_e_smile.gif

I second txmoose view on antman. He works really well with oml strike tiles. Triple tapping on oml strike tiles is great, and antman is one of the few who can help you do that

With my current mmr I have been able to get 1k in every PvP I care about using champ 4*thor + im40. (except the avengers off-season event, which sucked because i really wanted that x-23 cover). But things can get a bit ugle at 900+ when I see almost enitrly boosted 4* and 300-350 5* teams.

I don't have OML usable yet (still 0/1/0 and more than 100 days from the black daily cover). And I see about an even split of boosted top tier 4*s and OMLs, but the 4*a are typically more dangerous to me than the OMLs (which are almost always undercovered).

Sigh, seems like I might be best served by stockpiling until I cover a true stud 4* (or get a few more 5*s). It is no longer a surprise, but I am disheartened by how frequently the best strategy in this game is do nothing and stockpile assets (save tokens until you have HP, save HP until you have expiring characters, save iso until you have a premier character to level, save CP and LTs until you have champed your 4*s and won't waste covers, save tacos until you have 300, then wait for a worthwile vault).

Ant-Man is very situationnal, he's good but he's pretty much a specialist with special tiles, you should probably wait on champing him.

Kingpin on the other hand, he's certainly not top-tier but he's quite good, he's a little underrated but that black does seriously strong damage as long as you have a cheap way of making CD tiles. He also has self-acceleration and destruction of AP.

He's very versatile, I would champ him honestly. He also has 2 good builds depending on what you need (5/3/5 PVE, 5/5/3 PVP)

Definitely Ant-man since you have 3 covers
