Question about ai ability use order

Sorry if this is bumping an old discussion, too common words for search.

Is the order in which character ai uses its ap determined by random number generator or certain criteria to be met?

I swear juggs is waiting sometimes to down my obw with headbutt, as I'm fooled into thinking it is saving the red for moonstone and ignores my tank to grab env tile or something. So I go whew, I can grab that blue just in time to have heal ready and BAM! Obw is down. Or is it the fact that she has enough blue or purple the factor that ai decides to use a "saved ability"

It's hard to get a grip on it cause it doesn't happen always as ai uses red immediately, but maybe that's the point?

I think I can see a certain pattern in goon only fights, with two grenadiers for example ai seems to switch the green user when the other one is getting low on health.

  • They will save AP for the person with the higher cost, but with a random chance of using the lower cost earlier. The chance of them doing this seems to depend on the difference between the two ability's cost, as in the bigger the difference between the two ability's cost, the less likely the AI will use the cheaper ability. Since Headbutt is 6 and Photon Blast is 11, this is a pretty small difference (5) and you should expect a Headbutt pretty soon. For something like Sniper Rifle (19) versus Feral Claws (6), you'll see the AI hold onto that green for longer on average.

There's some kind of chance involved in them using the ability at all.... The solo Juggernaut and solo Ragnarok in the prologue missions will sometimes not use abilities they have the AP for.

I've seen them hold off from using environmental effects, but never a colored ability.

That's pretty well nailed it, yep.
  • Thank you, good to know that we are dealing with probabilities. Too much predictability might get boring

Could you make it so that a level 230 Juggs never uses his red ability ever? Thanks.

I don't really mind when he kills himself...
