So, there are crystal rewards for completing each mission with all 5 colors of planeswalkers now.

I have 100% on BFZ chapters 1 and 2, but am having trouble building a black deck that can beat the hard Chapter 3 missions. Anyone had any luck with that?

I haven't gone back to clear the origins levels with any colors yet, but I don't imagine that will be particularly difficult.

Oblvision sower (BFZ 3.7) was hard even with Kiora and Chandra, who can clear supports. I think it will be worth it to run Felidar Cub against that deck in white, but black is SOL there, at least until they release a black planeswaker that's also white (Sorin), red (Sarkhan the Mad or Nicol Bolas), or green (Garruk or Vraska).

Dirty secrets for Black to complete Oblivion Sower:
    1. Play Ob Nixilis.
    2. Play no creatures. Not even tokens.
    3. Play creature removal, ie. Unholy Hunger, Ruinous Path, Grip of Desolation, Scour from Existence, whatever.
    4. Play gem converting supports to speed up your loyalty gain.
    5. Use your third ability.
    6. Win.
    7. Laugh.

    *edit*
Don't forget Orbs of Warding so you can spam your first ability to speed up the kill.

Unfortunately I don't have Unholy Hunger, Ruinous Path or surprisingly, even Grip of Desolation. However, I still won on my first attempt. They never triggered waterveil. *shrug*

My Ob deck is pretty decent I find. Consists of Kothophed, Priest of the Blood Rite, Dark Petition, Returned Centaur, Cruel Revival, Fleshbag Maurader, Malakir Culblade, Transgress the Mind, Ruinous Path and Brawlers Plate the sometimes gets subbed for Drana depending on opponent. Works pretty good when you get your tier three ability rolling. Kothophed on the board; five mana for a creature kill and a card with Ruinous path and two extra cards for one life with first ability means 32 damage just on your turn, 40 when they draw on their turn

I understand this is off topic, but Oblivion Sower can be easily cleared by hexproof creatures (which only Green has).

Last night I was trying to clear Origins chapter 1 part two fight 9 - Guardians of Meletis. There is a crystal reward for killing 6 creatures but the entire deck only runs 4 copies of chief of the foundry. I had to play the one match for 40ish minutes before finally getting a sixth one on the board. At this point I clicked the bottom to make sure I only needed to kill on more creature only to have my game crash. Not sure I want to even try completing everything after that happened. It would be nice if that fight could be altered or the condition to get the crystals could be more realistic. Are there more missions later that don't really mesh with the computer's deck should know about?

If you've got Blue's turn to frog, that makes things a lot easier. You can even turn frogs into new frogs to crank up the kill count.

On some of the kill X creatures I used black and Necromantic Summons to bring back their creatures so I could kill them. Speeds it up a little bit.

This is pretty much broken. I've been trying to do this for an hour and for the last 20mins the AI is sitting there with all its cards ready to play and it hasn't played a single one. I'll try the summons route I guess.

At any rate, pretty lame achievement.
  • Another thing you can use is the black spell (uncommon, origins)* that brings back your last dead creature and your opponent's last dead creature. That with Splinters of Bone (kill, resummon, kill, resummon, etc) seems to work pretty well.

I agree that this is TERRIBLE design and it drove me bananas for a long time. I hadn't thought of the "turn to frog" or "imprison in the moon" version, which is much much better -- good ideas there.

*It's called "Dutiful Return" and it's mentioned literally two comments above. I'm going to work on this whole "reading" thing.

Just gotta use a defender that kills the and the chief can kill, then dubious challenge. Much quicker.

Try black with a lot of discard/removal. Infinite Obliteration, Transgress the Mind, Emrakul's Whispers, Lost Legacy - once the AI fills its hand, discard. Lilly's 1st is also useful here. You can use Sarkhan and Harness the Storm for added efficiency.

    Day's Undoing could also help.

And of course, Dubious Challenge. The best way to use it is with some handy rares/mythics (Day's Undoing, Seasons Past in Kiora, Harness in Arlinn, Panharmonicon, Pyromancer's Googles etc.) to make sure you draw it more often.

Pack a lot of draw, to make sure you cycle through your deck quickly. Make some coffee, pick a nice movie and be patient :)

    It's actually called Necromantic Summons

...still a work in progress, apparently.

How big is the crystal reward? Is it worth getting the basic planeswalkers for? (i.e. will they pay themselves off)

It has been a long time since I completed it all but I think the reward is 15 crystals per mission. You don't need the basic planeswalkers though, any planeswalker of that color counts and it's best to use dual color planeswalkers to speed up the process.

15 per level. It's actually better to use 2 color for the color objectives because they count for 2. I usually use Kiora, Ob and Aj and can get ALL the reward objectives in my three matches.
