Still wise to sell off 5 stars to avoid scaling?

Hey, guys. It's been a while since I've accomplished it, but I worked my butt off to get the 25 command points from Thick as Thieves (mainly because it's a short event). I have a strong 3 star roster, but just about no usable 4 stars outside of an 11 cover X-Force Wolverine who, to be honest, is probably worse than some of my 3 stars. Figuring I had nothing to lose and everything to gain, I went ahead and used 20 of those points to pull a random cover - Silver Surfer. ****. I've already sold him twice in the past few months because everyone kept saying scaling gets out of control because he's such a high level (conversely, my highest leveled character right now is 177), but is the landscape the same as it was back then? Should I kick him to the curb for a third time?
Seriously, though, how bad is is that I'm upset that I pulled a 5 star?

shouldnt be that bad since your highest is 177.. remember the scaling is based on your 3 highest so if that 177 is pumped he will be higher then 255 i think that is how it works..
they fix pvp.. I had 3 5 stars and ran into nothing but MAx 166 or higher right after seed teams but no longer does that happen..
I running 3 5 stars in this PVE and my Ess nodes are 150 to 1550 -
Not an easy answer there. The general rule I think would be to play an event and see what happens. Like Slide said, if you have 3*s maxed and boosted they would be right up there with the 255 5* anyway so it shouldn't affect you much.
If they implement the new pve style soon, it is supposed to look at levels AND covers to determine scaling, but that's a big if.
If you do have to sell it, at least it's the worst 5* character. Decision would be different if it was oml, goblin, etc.0 -
love to see them do a BENCH type thing where you pick what people your going to bring in and can only bring those in.. it would do your scaling then... so you can have as many 5s and not worry
I sold
2 sufers and 1 spidy in the past...0 -
I don't think it's ever been wise to sell 5* covers. I just think that there's always been a section of the population that says you should sell them and a section that says you should keep them. I have never sold a 5* including the two I pulled when I had nothing but level 120ish 2* characters. Scaling sucked back then but now I have 15 3* champs and every 5* except BSSM rostered and I'm glad I didn't sell anyone.0

don't sell. they're too hard to come by. roster them but don't level them up until you're ready.0

If you've got a champed 3* roster, you have nothing to worry about. Play the long game.0

the old pve scaling system still penalizes 2*/3* rosters for 1-cover 5*s. (that's the thick as thieves-style pve scoring, with 8 hour timers).
But we have seen 4 tests of a new system, and will presumably see a 5th soon and eventually a final implementation. The new system is not supposed to punish weaker rosters for under-covered 5*s (though it remains to be seen if that is the actual result).
So I would say it's likely to be a little painful in the short term to roster SS, but the long term risk is smaller as demiurge is trying to fix this problem.
Also, as others have mentioned scaling keys off the top 3 characters in your roster. So adding 1 5* won't nearly as bad as adding 2 or more.0 -

Agree with this. I pulled oml and surfer back when I was only a 2* player and yes it did bump my scaling quite a bit. But I toughed it out for a month or so and then when I had crept into 3* land it wasn't as bad.
For me personally both roads lead to the same place at different rates. Keep the 5* and your scaling sucks short term but long term you're future proofing yourself
Sell them and you'll keep your normal scaling but your journey to 5* (if you wanna go there at all) will be longer.0 -
I would say keep them since in long term it's much better to have 5*'s and even if your scaling toughens, as long as you are able to still do missions, it doesn't matter
and btw nice roster OneLastGambit0
