I'm afraid Ajani's price might be in the Kiora range (950 crystals).
Since I'm a sucker for red/white--long my favorite paper pairing--I took the plunge. Ajani's pretty fun. His ultimate ability is useless, but having access to red/white removal and efficient creatures is nice.
I only have him at level 36, and have been running through the story mode to get the "defeat with all colors" achievement. Please note if you win with him, you get credit for both red and white when doing that.
Anyway, my deck:
Bellows Lizard
Valakut Invoker
Serene Steward
War Oracle
Volcanic Rambler
Exquisite Firecraft
Lightning Javelin
Smite the Monstrous
Encircling Fissure
Sword of the Animist
Opposing creatures generally don't stand a chance, and Lightning Helix is enjoyable. The first ability has been occasionally useful, but I honestly forget to use it most of the time.
Lizard could really be anything else, but I put him in on a lark and he's doing fine.0 -
I'm actually running something of an eldrazi deck with him, because even in the early 40's his mana gain is insane.
Herald of Kozilek
Oblivion Sower
Ulamog's Despoiler
Smite the Monstrous
Ugin's Sanctum (to be replaced with a rare mana conversion support when I get one that works well with Ajani)
Ex. Firecraft
Abbot of Keral Keep
Demolish
Volcanic Rumbler
Swift Reckoning
The idea is to control the board with reckoning/smite/lighting helix, and then just push out big creatures really fast and murder things. Seems to be working out well so far in story mode.
EDIT: Ugin's Sanctum will be replaced with Battlefield Forge when I get the chance. I'm planning on replacing Ulamog's Despoiler with The Endless One after this weekend, as getting Despoiler to trigger its buff is inconsistent with only one way to generate void gems (and an expensive one, at that).
EDIT EDIT: In continued playtesting, colorless/Eldrazi style has been found to still not be quite viable yet. Here's my updated decklist, taking more advantage of Ajani's red/white combination:
Smite the Monstrous
Abbot of Keral Keep
Demolish
Iroas' Champion
Dragonmaster Outcast
Battlefield Forge
Lantern Scout
Volcanic Rumbler
Swift Reckoning
Exquisite Firecraft0
