SOO BROKEN!!

Undergrowth Champ' is bugged!

Example: I cast Scour of Existence on Undergrowth Champion and he only takes -1/-1????!!!!!

&@/@,'jksl!! AAAHHHH!

Lol, this should be fixed, since Scour is "destroying" not dealing DMG

This is a bug that the devs acknowledged. But yes, very broken.

I've had to forfeit games because of this creature.

According to the card description if it would work the way you described it would not be bugged at all.
Overpowered, most likely but not bugged.

Anyways last time I checked it was bugged cause it did not get the -1/-1 making it basically indestructible by spells(and still very resilient to combat damage).

That's how the Champion is supposed to work. An immovable object that can only be chipped away by damage and classic removal spells. That doesn't mean that it's not invincible... you can still debuff it with Languish and the like, bounce it back to your opponent's hand, disable it since it's not hex-proof (especially since it's usually the first creature because of the Defender trait), have your creatures fly over it if there isn't a way to deal with it directly, or just ping small amounts of damage constantly if all else fails.

I swear that Undergrowth Champion used to say that specifically damage from spells and creatures reduced it by-1/-1 but now it's worded to include destruction as part of the trigger.

If the devs secretly changed it then I guess it works according to the wording now. Perviously, one should have been able to destroy it with cards such as Scour (though it didn't work).

NO! That's the problem, I cast a spell "Destroying it" not dealing damage. So it should NOT get -1/-1, it should go to graveyard.

Do you not play real magic??

Check the card again. It says destroying it gives -1/-1 instead.

This isn't "real" magic. Here all the destroy effects, do so by causing damage. You can see the damage counters go on. It's very different from MtG in paper.

I actually think this card works well, exactly as intended and I'd recommend not to nerf it.
Yes it is very very good and as such well deserves it's mythic status( so many of them don't) but as mentioned before it is certainly not impossible to destroy, just very difficult.
every time you damage or destroy it makes gives it -1/-1 making it a less powerful creature able to do less damage. currently as we know the way damage is dealt leaves a creature with less toughness but able to deal the same amount of damage. it's a green answer to first strike as well where the game didn't really have one before.

I actually think this card adds variation to a game that is in danger of becoming too predictable. its a different sort of mechanic for the game and I like it.
  • I hate this card. They dropped the cost on it for the update. WHY?! Unless they fix this fricking card so spells that can kill cards instantly or damage them actually decrease the power/toughness on this card, making it cheaper to cast makes it more annoying. If you're not running it in your deck, and you bump into it, just throw the match. Since everyone at the top's mainly running green or white decks...well...

    Undergrowth Champion
    • Now costs 16 (up from 12).
o Undergrowth Champion is an incredibly potent creature for Green. It cost too little for what it does, and had to be increased.

they have increased the cost, I'm still going to use it, it's still awesome.

The best Undergrowth Champion is a stolen one!
Blue has access to Exert Influence, a fun card to brighten up your side of the board when UC hits.

I admit though that Reclaim and Fiery Conclusion should properly Destroy your creature. In fact i feel that Disable effects should allow direct damage to work as well. UC is not hexproof after all.

I find UC to be one of those few mythics that actually really deserves to be a Mythic...it sure is a pain when he comes if not dealt with fast enough, but then you have Flying, Disable, Bounce, First/Double strikers...he can fade away quite fast if you are prepared (read here : When you play vs Kiora or Nissa, assume they have it, and plan accordingly). If I had all the cards in the game, id gladly use it, but not rely on him, theres much worse, and faster cards than this dude. I am more scared when a flying Noyan Dar hits the field turn 2 than the UC...

I must admit I fear the day I'll met a mirrorpooled underground champion ,but now that it is no longer bugged and can actually be killed with 3 creatures +1 kill spell without losing more than one turn it is bearable.

You think that's bad? Try Undergrowth Champion + Evolutionary Leap. A 4/4 UC can suddenly become a 12/12 UC - and it can get even more out of control like an invasive weed if not taken care of!

I've never had problems with UC, I just claustrophobia it down continuously.

The Champ is good, but he is 16 mana for a 4/4. In Green, you can first get that at 7 mana. Around 16 mana, you're starting to get access to either bigger boys with Reach or just nasty attackers.

So yeah, the Undergrowth Champion better have something great going for him, or he's severely underpowered for a Mythic 4/4 defender that costs 16. I think his current abilities are fine. Bounce still works on him, as does hitting him with 3 attackers.

I don't play UC anymore, but I've used it a lot in the past.

The following images show that something is wrong with that card :

Then about 30 minutes later :

We both had Retreat to Kazandu. I had Nissa Renewal / Mantle of Web while he had Helm of the Gods. I left the game because both champions where constantly growing over time (and the lag was unbearable). I spent about 1 hour on that game.

@UrbanNinja - Those pics are hilarious! I'm surprised that you were both on 98 health still. I presume that's from the Retreat? Were both sides second and third creatures continuously being taken out?

Well Nissa heals 3 per turn and we didn't have any way of doing any damage. He might have had Nissa's Revelation, I don't remember.
