  • I think you americans should get on the trend because we Brits mhave seen an amazing boom in Kitchen sales since the original spamming of random game forums and you guys are probably missing out something chronic (its the only reason the UK is making it out of the recession!!!)

    Fun Fact!

In Northern California, USA "chronic" is almost exclusively used as slang for Marijuana.
  • Apparently, kitchen spam is a big thing now. Quick google searches show that they're hitting everything from diabetes forums to minecraft forums (the enjin site). There's even youtube vids on it (note, I left my headphones at home today so I'm blindly linking this vid). I've also read that it's likely humans posting this (as opposed to bots, aliens, or monkeys) as they're bypassing captcha and other anti-spam measures.

I have read that all the postings (for other victims) are coming from a specific range of IPs. Any chance D3 could do a little research and drop an IP ban in the server config? Your forumites will appreciate it.
  • But is there really a market for Kitchen Remodel Spam? How are they making money off of this? Is it possibly the work of a collective of kitchen remodel fetishists in an attempt to spread their particular brand of kink?

There was me thinking it was either terminology for "an extreme case of" or alternatively a very potent specific strain of said herbal wonderment???

I should have been a little more clear. Chronic would be a generic catch-all term for all varieties. The Chronic would be a term for a particularly potent strain.

Generally speaking, chronic is defined as a continuous or frequently reoccuring state or condition.

    And now you know.
    dum Bum dum bUM.
  • Fun Fact: In Washington State you can "chronically" purchase chronic for recreational use.

    Welcome all!

Which is pretty awesome. I'm still a little surprised it wasn't California first.
  • Must.. Resist.. Offers.. Just.. Renovated.. Aaarrggh!
  • Another mobile game forum I used to visit was completely ruined by kitchen spam, much like a dog with heartworms.
  • Sesame Street has Iron Monster. It's Grover in a sweet IM costume. I can't figure out how to post a pic of it but Google images will hook you up.
  • I wonder what their target demographic is, or whether they even have one. I can't imagine gamers (in gross generalization) being a good target for fitted kitchens.

Unfortunately, that's not the case here. Kitchen sellers operate out of Romania, Ireland, the US, Canada, and Germany most often, but we've seen random scattered IPs. The really weird thing is that whoever is making these accounts is actually human since they're able to beat the normal account creation checks that rely on knowledge of the English language. They also use legitimate sounding email addresses, so it's not something we can just toss in a filter to get around. We'll keep banning and such, but I'm not sure that there's a foolproof way to keep these ones down.

It's very easy get around these spams, simply promote people as moderators and they'll remove them for you.

No exact timeline on that, but you'll see something soon. It's a matter of getting things properly codified so that Community mods have a simple set of standards and rules to adhere to. I've got experience personally doing that sort of stuff but it's a different matter to admin it as I've quickly found out. icon_e_smile.gif
  • Since there are so very few spammers doing this, blacklisting link results or specific content would probably make them go away. It might make things uncomfortable for people that want to start their threads by suggesting characters based on kitchen appliances, but hey, there's just so many kitchens.

You could add it to the bad language filter too, and turn their otherwise spammy messages into tinykitty.
