Should have known better

I agonized over buying a big box of the Spells promotional. I REALLY wanted 3 of the 12 possible mythics, I already had 2 of the possible mythics and I only didn't want 1 of the mythics. Of course it gave me the one I didn't want. But what about the whopping 70 cards in all those packs? I opened 3 rares, all of which were from Origins and all of which I already have (of course). I think I may have gotten 1 or 2 uncommons I did not already have, but nothing I would want to put in a deck.

I talked it over with my wife right before and said this is the best chance I'll have of getting one of the three mythics I would really like, but of course I'll probably open up a couple duplicate rares and that is exactly what happened.

I used to sing the praises of this game to everyone I ran across, but now when people ask me what I'm playing I tell them it's a great game, but not worthwhile because you can't get the good cards.

They need to divide the price by 10 at these rates. I can't afford to spend $45 at a 1 in 4 chance of getting a card I want. I am so mad at myself for falling for the trap.

If they at least had some sort of dusting/crafting mechanism like hearthstone or a trading system like MGTO then I would actually spend more as duplicates would not be a pointless as they are now. Even if they converted to crystals rather than runes then they wouldn't be a complete loss.

    yes

opening packs is a trap right now (maybe even having them there waiting to be claimed), and has been for a while

The only people that should open packs are the new players that any card that shows up is new. But once you have 1 deck that can do fairly good in ladder you should stop getting new packs because you will start getting more and more frustrated.

but sometimes you get tempted and be like "ok ill open this pack maybe i get a mythic" and you get 2 uncommon and feel like shiet

Sorry to hear that majincob. I'm always routing for my fellow mtgpq players that take a gamble on packs to get at least one card he/she desires. It's too bad that the funnest part of this game is also the most disappointing. IMO, the devs really need to start concentrating on fixing the cards that aren't working properly and coming up with a better way for players to get the cards they desire. Big boxes and packs are great when a new set is released. However, opening them becomes an excercise in frustration once a player has all the commons/uncommons.

    This!
I was gathering crystals for a Big Box, but I realized that a Big Box will give me 65 duplicates and 5 cards that I don't have, out of which 1 or 2 max will be good. So spending 600 crystals for cards is not a good trade. I decided to buy the new planeswalkers with my crystals. At least they will open a whole new strategy for a deck because of the abilities of the planeswalker.
I just wonder how much crystals will Kiora and Ajani be, because they are definitely most worth it, because they even let you combine colors.
And will they also include a planeswalker for every color combo? I really want a R/G planeswalker, though I might have to wait for them to release Shadows over Innistrad for that :/

I know what you mean. I have a pretty decent set of cards because I've been playing for months, and I'll tell people that I play the game, but I never recommend it to anyone any more. Quite the opposite in fact.

I proposed a trade-up mechanism for duplicate cards; this may not be the first time the idea was suggested but I would welcome your feedback.

im doing the same thing, i have 700 something crystals i wont be spending on big boxes. i bought gideon z, but wont be getting ob nix since he doesnt seem as fun, and i dont really have the black card pool for him, the other 2 pwalkers just released dont really seem that much fun or good to me so ill hold off on them as well. pretty much gonna just wait for kiora and ajani to be released to purchase them. im assuming theyll be around 500 crystals each, we'll see.

i also wont be opening any bfz packs until they add in every card to the set.

It's only worth it to spend crystals on the 2 colored planewalkwer Kiora and ajani. Other new planewalkwer are not worth it imo. In knowing that Dev will more than likely make Kiora and ajani very expensive like 1000 to 1500 crystal each.
I really wish all that ribbons you collect in QB could be converted into some crystal to make it more accessible and grinding less painful. Or convert dupes into crytals.

i bought ob and he is pretty fun and fast (when you do well)

have a bunch of cheap creatures, have 1 or 2 removals, have a couple "draw card" cards like painfull truths or Altar's Reap, rush loyalty to 18 for the 3rd ability and hit the enemy for 80 damage in 2 turns

a 4 manaconverged painfull truths to the face does 12 damage and draw 4 cards (32 damage), you have 2 3/3 creatures that attack (6 damage), pass turn, IA draw a card (8 damage), your turn you draw a card (8 damage), if you can use 1st skill (16 damage), play 2 Altar's Reap and draw 4 cards (32 damage), pass your turn. IA draws a card (8 damage). Total = 122 damage
