Before Gold Thor D3 could have......

Why release this kind of character when you could have essentially done the same thing by giving Ragnarok a 3rd color. I think until we get Daken, Bullseye, Doom, Ragnarok, and Loki up to snuff, we don't need any new 3 stars, lets take the 3 we have with only 2 skills and upgrade them. Then we can look into Gold Thor

3* Thor reeks of laziness and a cash grab.0

Its no work. They can make gold version of all characters in a day. Creating new abilities take more time and its harder.0

Well, we don't know yet. I mean, Gold Thor could be just a rehash, but calling lazy at this point is premature. He might actually be more work if they did something cool with him to allow your ** Thor resources to convert to the *** one. For example, maybe once you get all covers of a Gold character, you could use your maxed ** to get an extra cover of each color and some ISO.
13 ** covers into 2 *** covers seems pretty fair, and getting a boost into leveling the character would be cool and nice...
I am hoping there is something cool like that since they bothered to animate the stars on the character portrait, which no other card has.
If it's not like that... You guys are kind of right, even if I would be happy to have a *** Thor.0 -
I think the fact that they have said nothing about this new "special" 3* character is a good indication that it really is just a 3* version of 2* Thor. If it were going to include some way to progress from 2* to 3* which would be an entirely new mechanic for the game wouldn't there have been a roll out explaining what the deal is?0

Since no one actually has any 3* gold thor covers yet the explanation and rollout may be released at the end of hulk.
Doubtful but still a possibility0 -

Something has been said about this, IceIX posted in the PVE notes the other day:
New Hero Available via this event: Thor (Modern)
Thor (Modern) is much like his 2* variant, but with slightly modified powers and (of course) the ability to level to a max of 141 like other 3* characters. Thor is the first of his kind for this style of powering up of a character. 2* and 3* forms of Thor, while similar are still considered different versions of the same character as with any other more full variant like Black Widow (Modern) and Black Widow (Original).

People will max his covers within a few minutes of the event's completion just to see if the abilities really are the same. They will do the obligatory "Hu, I just pumped a bunch of money into him" line and we will pretend to believe them even though we know they are just cheating.0

Oddly, I don't care if someone sandboxes themselves, but am grateful for the information the cheaters can provide about fully leveled characters0

He's a "gold" character because he's a money grab for the devs. Sure, he'll find space on players' rosters because his abilities synergize well together and having 3* equivalents of the 2* abilities is useful. I don't like it because it makes 2* Thor obsolete. Why bother building a 2* Thor now? He'll be redundant on peoples' rosters, but more than likely we'll need to hold onto both because there will be required missions that accept only one version of the character.
At least with other variants their abilities are different enough and can still find use in some situations or might be fun to pull out from time to time. With a gold version you lose that.0 -
2* Thor is probably the first powerful character players get as a reward in the Prologue. Even a post-nerf Thor helps players starting out in PVP. Getting covers for MN Thor will always be easier and more sensible for the vast majority of casual players.0

With the way the devs have been handing out new covers, its going to take a very long time before people actually get enough covers for lazythor to obsolete 2* thor, so 2* thor is still worth building because it would take months to get enough covers for lazythor.0 -

I don't think I understand this reasoning. Why bother building a 2* Thor? Because you get a ton more covers and is currently a critical piece in both the 1-> 2 and 2-> 3 star transition. If you could have a fully maxed 3 star team, 2* Thor would already be obsolete, just like every other 2* character. Introducing 3* Thor doesn't change that.0 -
Much as I hate the concept of Lazy Thor, I think he's going to see a *lot* of play - that yellow is just too useful in the current three-star pool.0

I was thinking from a new player point of view. Why waste time and ISO on 2* Thor when you know a 3* exists. Yes, maxed 3*s do generally make all 2*s obsolete. However, you could still mix in a 2* for certain scenarios. 2* Magneto and OBW are still useful 2*. When Daken was buffed he came in handy. You even find use for 1* Storm in some cases. There would never be a reason to use 2* Thor over 3* Thor based solely on abilities because they're the same.0 -
Most of these players will not spend money, full stop. A 3* is out of reach for most of the main game. Getting enough 3* Thor covers to give new players a useful character? Not gonna happen for them.0

Really? I think with Hood, Black Panther, and of course SpiderMan sporting some pretty dang good yellow abilities that I've got about zero interest in LazyThor(TM). I'm going to snag a cover or two from the event just to be sure I don't get locked out of missions in future events but I don't currently plan to level him at all. There green/red on LazyThor, unless significantly better than 2* Thor, won't compete with Patch. The AOE aspect won't compete with Grey Suit Black Widow. The only appeal to me is the tankiness but even a super tanky character is easily defeated with a combo of massive strike tiles + stun.0 -
GSBW is being pushed to the back burner as they put cannons on tanks. While lazyThor's green may do less overall damage, having it on someone with twice the hit points will make up for it. Plus it costs 5ap less!0

What makes you think the AOE won't compete with BWGS? Hers currently does 3336 to all enemies at level 141.
Thor 85 curently does 2003 to main target and 1001 to the others. At 141 he could easily be doing 4000/2000/2000 for all we know. Sure, that's 2000 less total damage than BWGS, but you can fire two of them for 28 AP versus two BWGS for 38 AP.
Sure it might not be better in all respects, but there are certainly teams where I would prefer a 141 Thor over a 141 BWGS - especially since his yellow does damage and his red ability will likely do a decent amount of damage at 141.0 -
I'm hoping the "gold" designation will prove to signify that there is a Pokemon-style evolution element to the character, otherwise it seems silly to have created that category instead of sticking with "rare character." Just 4.5 days(!) until we know...0
