Disabling creatures negates passive abilities?

I had a Malakir Cullblade in play with my blightcaster deck vs Nissa. She drops a bounding krasis, disabling him until her next turn. I, on my next turn, drop it with Unholy Hunger, but my cullblade doesn't get buffed. Is this how disabling is supposed to work?
